Today we’d like to introduce you to Nema Kamar.
Hi Nema, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was doing the door in NYC at Pink Elephant in 2008. A man walked up to the door and said he was Alicia Keys manager but Alicia wasn’t with him so I made him buy a $1500 table to come inside. At the end of the night, he said I like you to come to my office tomorrow. I had no idea how impactful the CEO of MBK entertainment would be on my life.
The very next day I went to his office and in almost a psychic way he told me “You are going to start a show called NEMA’s BOOM BOOM ROOM”.
A show for real singers to have a platform. Signed or unsigned.
My first show Elle Varner headlined. Shaquille O’Neal and Andre Blacthett hopped on stage and had a rnb battle. It was epic. 11yrs later I am honored to have so many artists, athletes, celebrities, and real music lovers support the show.
We are now national and hopefully international one day soon.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I knew it was something I wanted to do bc it made me happy. I had so many relationships in the music industry bc of nightlife, I knew I could get the right people in the room to see how dope the artists were. It was a struggle tho because I had to pay for the venue, band, rehearsals, etc. It was a real business I was starting with no Capitol! I wanted this so much, I would pay for the show before I paid my rent!
Eventually, I was able to get real press and celebs in room and then the sponsors came. I have some amazing sponsors now. Very quickly it became the place to be for the entertainment industry to just pull up and listen to live music. It became so well known we are now in Los Angeles and Washington DC.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Nema’s Boom Boom Room?
NBBR is a platform for real singers and musicians. Carefully selected artists who I believe are next up or just amazing all on their own are chosen to hit the stage. They are given a chance to promote their music and some have been discovered and signed.
I think what sets me apart is that God blessed me with a good ear for music and the relationships to get the right people in the room.
I’m most proud bc I get to take my gift and help others accomplish their goals. I get to give artists a platform and I also get to create an experience for the audience that makes them get lost in the music.
My brand is my name. I am very big on “do you take voice lessons”. Nowadays, anyone can record a song. If you are not a real vocalist, you probably won’t get a chance to be on my stage.
I think that is what I’m most known and respected for. Real singers only!
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
My most important lesson in this journey was to not give up. I would get frustrated sometimes bc I was a woman and club owners would try to take advantage of me and mess with my money. I would get discouraged.
Every month tho I would get live music withdrawals so I had to keep pushing and not let them get under my skin. I learned to work smarter.
11yrs later, with all the brand partnerships, celebrities, comedians, athletes, and amazing artists who went on to have amazing careers, those same club owners wish they treated me with respect!
