Community Highlights: Meet Michelle Zarrin of The Mindfulness Expo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Zarrin.

Michelle, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My meditation journey began in 2008. At the end of that year, I attended a ten-day silent retreat, where I spent about 11 hours per day meditating. Those ten days changed my life. I came home and deepened my meditation journey by meditating for at least one hour per day.

While I was attending another meditation retreat, I had a download come through me that I am supposed to teach meditation. I listened to that download, and what started as a very personal practice expanded into my sharing the beauty of meditation with those around me.

I did not have a business plan as to how I was going to share the message of meditation and mindfulness, but I did have a daily prayer. My prayer was, “Please use me.”

The journey was not easy because when I began, meditation was not as mainstream as it is now. But I did not stop. I resiliently walked through the setbacks and failures.

Where I am today in my journey of sharing the message of meditation and mindfulness: My guided meditations have over 1.5 million plays worldwide. And I am the founder of The Mindfulness Expo, a one-day event with yoga classes, workshops and exhibitors all focusing on mindfulness and wellness.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road. Perseverance and at many times surrender definitely have played a big role in my journey. Each time I encountered a failure or setback, I thought about changing course… I thought it should not be this hard to follow my purpose.

Yet, because it is my purpose to share meditation and mindfulness, I could never actually bring myself to quit. This desire to be a part of this world runs deep within me, and like a rubber band, it has weaned out but has never broken.

So I would persevere through and surrender to continuing to find my path within my purpose.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I am the founder of The Mindfulness Expo, a one-day event in Anaheim, CA. We offer yoga classes, workshops and exhibitors all focusing on mindfulness and wellness. It is an all-encompassing day for the mind, body and spirit.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Be patient. The path does not unfold as quickly as we’d like. What seems like an “overnight success” has been years in the making.
