Community Highlights: Meet Meg Dela Cruz

Today we’d like to introduce you to Meg Dela Cruz.

Hi Meg, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hi loves! This is actually my second career. I was in tech before and I loved it but did not love my boss, that’s when I realized that I can no longer work for someone else. I left the company and did a lot of graphic design and QA freelancing. At the same time my best friend and I got into makeup, we watched a lot of the youtubers when they were the craze back then. She then went on to become a wedding makeup artist and she would ask me to assist her sometimes until it went to helping her curl the bridesmaid’s hair and that’s when I realized I actually have the knack for it. I also realized that I have a better chance of making it as a bridal hairstylist than a makeup artist because there was already a lot of good makeup artists out there. So I dedicated all my efforts into getting better. I trained with the best hairstylists in the business. Kristina Yousef from australia (KYK HAIR), Lisa Alger from UK, Renee Marie, Anette Updos from US to name a few.

Four years ago I moved to the Vegas area and had to rebuild everything I had in LA. Since my makeup artist friends were the main people who booked me, I did not have any portfolio, no instagram. I had to rebuild and network out here which was very scary at first but in two years I was able to build everything that I have now — my brand my business.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Moving to Vegas was definitely rough, new environment, new people, and new clientele. Also, since I work mostly in weddings or events, I never get a weekend off — so I had to sacrifice time with my friends and family. There was definitely a lot of family gatherings that I missed. I worked every single day — no day-offs so I can build my brand quickly and effectively. In two years I was able to penetrate the market and make a name for myself out here in vegas — definitely, a lot of struggles but everything was definitely worth it

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I provide mobile beauty. I am a luxury brand, my prices are more expensive but I definitely make sure that my service is top-notch, I provide BEAUTIFUL hair and EXCEPTIONAL service. Experience includes me traveling to my client’s locations and sometimes even them flying me out to other states and countries! some places I have been flown out to — San Fransisco, San Diego, Cancun, Lake Tahoe, Beverly Hills, etc.

I am known for doing glam, luxurious hairstyles for the royal and timeless brides

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I have an assistant that helps me with most of my admin work. I love her this business would not be here without her. I have the basic productivity apps, apps to help me edit and post our content.

I also just started dabbling with therapy and life coaching, I truly believe that to be the best, you have to learn from the best, and you also need to be coachable. The moment we think that we are the best is the moment we stop growing. I want to grow, I want to be successful so I in turn can help other stylists make it in this industry
