Marlene Orozco

Hi Marlene, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started photography as a hobby back when I was in high school. I loved taking pictures of my friends and family. My dad had bought me a camera from Best Buy a point-and-shoot camera. Oh man, I was so excited to own a camera. From there I went to college where I had no idea want I to wanted to major in. Meanwhile, I would practice having photoshoots of my friends and family. Not until my 2nd year in college I decided to switch my major to Business Administration. In 2018 I had my first gig for a wedding. I want to thank my family/Bf for always believing in me because I was so nervous to even start charging. Since then, I knew that photography was not only my side job but also a hobby/passion. I love every aspect of capturing beautiful memories. It took a pretty long time to get where I am now. I know that patience and connecting with others was the key to get where I am. I wouldn’t trade this for a different career. I’ve met many beautiful people and kind-hearted clients.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I want to say that in the beginning, it wasn’t so smooth. I started with no experience and had no help from no one. I self-taught myself, and it was pretty hard when I first started. I didn’t know how to get clients or promote myself. But with time I would practice a lot and that helped so much, I also would look at YouTube videos and also go on Pinterest. In the year of 2019, I started to get more clients and I also started to get wedding gigs. I was super nervous because I know weddings are a big deal. My struggles were making my contract right and how to interact with my wedding clients. Then covid hit and I had a couple of weddings postponed and it started to slow down. I have learned so much, and I love learning from my mistakes and helping others that are in the photography industry. I can now say it’s been smooth, and till this day I am still learning new strategies.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Orozco Photography?
I am a Wedding/lifestyle photographer, my favorite part about photography is capturing couples. Weddings is one of my priorities I enjoy it so much, from the detail shoots to bridal party photos from the ceremony to the reception everything about capturing weddings makes my heart happy. I do capture a little of everything like maternity, family, self-portraits/brand shoots, engagement shoots, & so on. I am grateful to have amazing clients and to know that there are people that have interest in my work. I am proud in how far I’ve came, I know that it wasn’t so easy but putting effort and putting my all made a difference.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Something that I’ve learned along my journey is being organized. It was so hard for me to maintain a schedule and to maintain a time when to edit and how long I should spend editing. It took a while but eventually, I became more organized. I put so much of my time into my photography business and I don’t regret it. Being able to create art is what I love. I’ve invested so much into my business as in time/props/attended some workshops and even hosted two styled shoot workshops (lalindavidaworkshop).
