Community Highlights: Meet Marisa Beltran del Rio of Massage By Marisa B

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marisa Beltran del Rio.

Hi Marisa, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
All my life, I dreamt of being able to facilitate healing in the people around me. After sustaining an injury at 16, I discovered significant benefits to my healing process through massage therapy. That experience remained with me and inspired me to fulfill my dream by studying massage therapy to begin my own healing practice. When I moved to NorCal in 2018, I randomly ended up right down the road from National Holistic Institute and the next round of classes started the very next month. It seemed serendipitous, so I decided to take the leap and sign up for classes.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Massage, and all its modalities, have been my passion for over four years now. I love what I do, so that definitely makes pursuing my dreams a lot easier. But there are times when I sit down, look at everything I have to keep in order and think, “What the heck have I gotten myself into?”.

When I moved to LA in January of 2022, I had no idea what I was doing. I wanted to be closer to my family after having lived in NorCal through the lockdown, but I wasn’t excited about the prospect of rebuilding my clientele. I am very happy to have found a space to rent in Perch Salon! The Stylists are wonderfully supportive, and my clients are absolutely amazing! I am busier than ever; I couldn’t have picked a better place or time to move.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
During my own healing journey, I was inspired to create a business where my clients felt comfortable being themselves, and knew they were coming in for a massage customized specifically to their needs. I didn’t want them to feel stuck having to choose between Cupping, or Swedish, or Lymphatic Drainage massages when they probably need a combination of all three.

I offer a fairly wide variety of massages, Lymphatic Drainage and Cupping being the most popular. The prices are all-inclusive and every massage can become a combination of multiple modalities. Things that are normally add-ons are included in any massage (i.e., hot stone, cupping, and CBD oil). My goal is to make the booking experience easy, and the massage experience the best you have ever had.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
The running joke in my family is I do not play well with bosses, so I decided to become my own. From the very beginning of my CMT journey, I have been a self-employed massage therapist. I worked as an independent contractor for a wonderful company for the first 3 years, but moving to LA made me want to put down some real roots and have a place to call home base. I found Marisa Tarpey at Perch Salon in July of 2022 and started renting a space in her beautiful salon. Eight wonderful months later, I am feeling blessed beyond my wildest dreams with where Massage by Marisa B has taken me!

Another fact that surprises people is that I am extremely allergic to Lavender and Eucalyptus. This has led me to study essential oils to find other EOs that offer the same benefits (did you know Vetiver has better relaxation properties than Lavender? It helps relieve anxiety, and it blends beautifully with Patchouli which is an anti-inflammatory).
