Community Highlights: Meet Mari Padilla of Boss Ass Women Of Sacramento

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mari Padilla.

Mari Padilla

Hi Mari, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started my entrepreneurship journey in 2013 in a male-dominated field and had a difficult time with being treated differently than my male business partner.

After leaving the company in 2019, I felt the urgency to highlight the Boss Women who make Sacramento. I created an inclusive space that supports women-owned businesses while curating intentional connections, collaborations, and events.

In addition, I am a partner of We Are Sacramento, a Media & Community Organization which produces local podcasts, curates events, and highlights Sacramento creatives. The Gallery by We Are Sacramento is an Art Gallery and Event Venue and my most recent business endeavor.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been a wild yet fun journey. Some days, you feel uninspired or creatively drained and some days, you feel confident and resilient. The good and the bad are all worth it in the end, though.

As you know, we’re big fans of Boss Ass Women Of Sacramento. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
BAWS was established for Boss Ass Women of Sacramento. We highlight and support women-owned businesses, we make intentional connections, fundraise for local non-profits, and curate events and volunteer opportunities for community members.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I am indeed a risk-taker because life without risk-taking is boring.

I am a person that hates to think “what if”, so despite the outcome, I take that risk. Starting a business is a risk, although I would have never known I was capable of doing so if I never would’ve took the risk & created it.
