Community Highlights: Meet Loresa Grigsby of First Choice Notary LA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Loresa Grigsby.

Hi Loresa, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
In the wake of the pandemic, I took a chance on something new and decided to launch my notary business five years ago. What began as a side hustle has since blossomed into a full-fledged venture, driven by my passion for service, meeting new people and community impact.

With over 15 years of experience in hospitality and customer service, I’ve always valued genuine connections and making people feel valued. This philosophy is at the core of my notary business. I’m committed to bringing convenience and professionalism to every client interaction. Whether it Senior Citizens or couples navigating the buying or selling their homes, I genuinely enjoy being a small but meaningful part of those important moments.

Beyond the notary services, I’m dedicated to giving back. For instance, this quarter, First Choice Notary LA is donating children’s hangers to local daycare centers, blending community support with our business growth. In the past we’ve partnered with The Children’s Heart Foundation, The Los Angeles Mission and a few other organizations in the Los Angeles area. It’s important to me that my business not only thrives but also contributes positively to the places we live and work.

As a woman of color, being a small business owner is not just a career choice; it’s a testament to resilience and empowerment. It’s about paving the way for others and inspiring future entrepreneurs.

In every step of this journey, my commitment remains the same: to serve with integrity, compassion, and a deep sense of community.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There were Soooo many struggles along the way. I actually failed my notary exam 3 times before I passed! It was discouraging and exhausting, but I was determined to pass and start my business. I was also a terrible marketer and was quite shy about sharing my business with others in the beginning. However, over time and thru some training and repetition, I became better at it and I also took some classes to feel more confident!

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
Absolutely, the notary industry is definitely shifting. Over the next five to ten years, we can expect a few upgrades I think. Currently in California, Remote Online Notarizations are not permitted by California notaries, but it’s clear that there’s going to be more of a need for digital and remote notarizations.

I believe we will have the ability to do so very soon. With technology advancing, remote online notarization is becoming more mainstream, making it more convenient for clients who need notary services from anywhere in the world.

Second, there may be a greater emphasis on security and compliance, especially with the increasing amount of digital transactions and even digital currency. This means that notaries, like myself, will need to stay updated on cybersecurity best practices and evolving regulations.

Finally, there’s the trend of enhanced client experiences. As competition grows, notaries who can offer a seamless yet personalized experience will stand out. This could mean things like better appointment scheduling, more flexible hours, and even value-added services.
