Grow Your Edges Back is a hair care brand that I started with the mission to provide high-quality, natural solutions for individuals struggling with thinning edges and hair loss. We specialize in using all-natural ingredients, focusing on both the health and aesthetic of our customers’ hair. Our products are designed to restore confidence and promote healthy hair growth, particularly within the Black community, where textured hair and edges hold deep cultural significance.
What sets us apart from other brands is our commitment to both quality and community. Our products are tested on friends and family, not animals, and we take great pride in listening to feedback from real people to continuously improve. We’re not just selling hair care products; we’re providing a solution that reflects our core values of health, integrity, and innovation.
One of the things I’m most proud of is the trust we’ve built within our community. Seeing the joy and confidence people feel when they regrow their edges and achieve healthier hair is incredibly rewarding. We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has definitely not been smooth. As an entrepreneur, the journey is always filled with obstacles, and I’ve faced plenty. One of my biggest challenges was finding the right balance between staying true to my values—making a product that’s natural and effective—while still keeping it commercially viable. There were times when supplier costs went up, and it felt like every step forward came with two steps back.
In the early stages, I had to reformulate my product multiple times because I realized the initial versions just weren’t cost-effective. That process took a lot of time and drained me financially. Building trust within the community wasn’t easy either. Hair care, especially for textured hair, is personal, and people really need to believe in your product before they’re willing to try it. Earning that trust took a lot of patience and persistence.
On top of that, I’ve had my fair share of tech challenges. My social media accounts have been hacked, ads have been mismanaged—things like that can really throw a wrench in your marketing and growth plans. But at the end of the day, I’ve learned that every setback is just another chance to grow. The key is to stay resilient, keep moving forward, and always remember why you started in the first place.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
There are many people who deserve credit for helping me along this journey. First and foremost, I have to give credit to my circle of mentors and friends. They’ve been my sounding board and have given me invaluable advice, especially when I was struggling to make my product both effective and affordable. Many of my close friends, who are vegans, pushed me to focus on natural, plant-based ingredients, which became a cornerstone of **Grow Your Edges Back**.
I also need to acknowledge the Black-owned beauty supply stores in my community. Their trust and willingness to support my products helped get me through those early stages. These stores weren’t just retail spaces—they became partners who offered guidance and provided the platform I needed to get my brand in front of the right people.
Lastly, I want to give a special shout-out to my customers. Their feedback, patience, and belief in my product kept me motivated to keep refining and improving what we offer. Seeing their results and hearing their stories has been a big part of my success.
