Community Highlights: Meet Lizzy Boelter of Super Bloom Bakery

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lizzy Boelter.

Lizzy, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Hae, Iylla and I (Lizzy) have all known each other for years. Hae and I are married and Iylla is our bestie. In fact, she officiated our wedding! I have to eat gluten free because I have celiac disease. Disappointed with the gluten free options in Oakland, he and I decided to open our own gluten free cafe.

We ran it for a few years, but when our lease was up, we decided to move to LA and focus on sourdough. Iylla was already living here and as we established ourselves at farmers markets around Los Angeles, we took her on as a 3rd partner. She rebranded us Super Bloom Bakery. Then two months later, the pandemic hit. We quickly pivoted to online sales with shipping and local delivery, taking orders via Instagram DMs and emails while Iylla quickly built out an e-commerce site. We discovered we had customers all over the US and decided to stay online and expand our business there!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Shipping delays nearly destroyed us during the summer of the pandemic! We reshipped countless packages that got lost/damaged/delayed… We worked with our packaging, settling on compostable bags that help keep the bread fresh and cold bags packed with ice… now we’ve got a handle on it, but it was difficult for all businesses during that time.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Super Bloom Bakery?
We specialize in gluten free sourdough that is made with the cleanest and finest ingredients. We are known for having the most delicious, real bread like bread made with minimal, healthful ingredients that are also allergen free. Things we are proud of brand-wise: we have a very high rate of returning customers! To know about our brand: we are queer/female-owned and operated. The bread is handmade by fairly paid, highly skilled pros.

What matters most to you? Why?
Quality. We use the finest ingredients possible to make the highest quality naturally fermented gluten free sourdough.
