Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Adams. They and their team shared their story with us below:
Born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, Lisa Adams left for the mainland at age 17 to attend the prestigious University of California, Berkeley, where she received her Master’s degree from the University’s top-ranked Chemistry program. After eight years in the Bay Area, Lisa moved to Southern California, where she then pursued her MBA from Malibu’s Pepperdine University.
Though a science major, Lisa knew she possessed an unusual blend of left and right-brain traits. As a dedicated follower of fashion, style and décor, she decided that design, with its combination of creative inspiration and disciplined details, would be an ideal fit for her personal and professional passions.
Observing the public’s newfound passion for these functional spaces, she began to notice that there was yet one more under-utilized and misunderstood room to be explored – the closet. Coat closets, master wardrobes, laundry rooms, kid’s closets – they were all functionally and aesthetically in the dark ages. Lisa decided it was time to reinvent the closet into spaces that were highly functional, uber-organized and utterly beautiful.
LA Closet Design launched in 2007 with the intention of revolutionizing the concept of closets. Since then, a roster of celebrities, designers, architects and homeowners of all stripes have engaged Lisa’s services to create customized, often high tech and environmentally friendly wardrobe spaces that add real value to the home, improve a homeowners living experience and add style and flair to what is one of the most important spaces in a house.
As Lisa Adams has become an international and celebrity go-to luxury closet designer, she has also become a top design influencer in her field. In recent years, she created a carry-on luggage line called LAMove Mobile Closet – a closet on the go – and launched the popular lifestyle blog CLOSETPHILE. Her clients reside across the US, Europe, Dubai, and more. Name-drop worthly clients include Khloe Kardashian, Fergie, Christina Aguilera and Reese Witherspoon.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I started my business in 2007, and then shortly thereafter, there was the recession–not a great time to be talking “luxury!” I pivoted from new build construction to remodels, and fortunately, being in Los Angeles, I was able to weather that proverbial storm. It was also a period where I did a tremendous amount of networking and diversification, which helped afterward. Also, closets were not what they are today back in 2007, so it took a lot of communicating, educating, and promoting to push my idea that closets are important spaces in the home–we start and end our days, usually, in this space, and it deserved to be a well-designed space that we want to be in!
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
L.A. Closet Design has been providing its international client base with full-service luxury closet design since 2007. In our mission to create a functional and aesthetic balance, we bring out the potential in our clients’ under-utilized and often out-of-control wardrobe and storage spaces. Working with clients and collaborators across the globe, we are excited by each opportunity to bring calmness to the chaos of everyday life. With the versatility to design spaces that range from feminine to masculine, classic to cutting-edge, we can ensure each client feels as if they have a dream boutique in their very own home.
“My mission is to create wardrobe and storage spaces that are balanced functionally and aesthetically. As a designer, I see the potential in this under-utilized and often out-of-control space to add value to your home and to calm the chaos of everyday life.
The closet is where we most often spend the first and last moments of a day and unfortunately, at those times many of us deal with universal closet issues: cluttered, overstuffed and unorganized spaces. Instead, I look at both your room – and your life – and then I create a space of peace, beauty and even glamour.
Each LA Closet Design project is customized to reflect the needs and style of the individual client. Whether masculine, sophisticated and streamlined or feminine and high fashion, the closet should be a high functioning, a natural extension of the home and an actual living space.”
How do you define success?
I define success as trying, enduring, failing, and oftentimes overcoming obstacles.
