Today we’d like to introduce you to Leica Palma.
Hi Leica, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I never planned on becoming an esthetician, let alone owning a facial spa. But sometimes life gently nudges you in a direction you didn’t expect. My skincare journey started in my late 20s, not as a professional, but as a client. I had tricky skin, especially with hyperpigmentation, and I was trying all kinds of facials, hoping to find something that actually worked.
At one of my appointments, an esthetician I had seen a few times casually suggested I should look into becoming an esthetician myself. At the time, I didn’t think much of it, but the idea stuck with me. I was already asking tons of questions and genuinely curious about products, techniques, and skin health. The more I thought about it, the more it felt like something I could really love doing.
Eventually, I enrolled in esthetics school. From the very beginning, it just felt right. I was fascinated by what I was learning, especially the science behind skin and treatments. It was also during that time I realized that some of the services I had received in the past weren’t actually within the legal scope of what estheticians in California are allowed to do. That really shifted my mindset. I became committed to staying educated, staying in scope, and building trust through safe, ethical care.
Now I’m a licensed esthetician and the owner of Simply Facials in Thousand Oaks, CA. I specialize in custom facials, chemical peels, and helping clients create simple, effective home skincare routines. I opened the studio just a few months ago, and the growth has been more than I imagined. It’s been a mix of excitement and a lot of hard work, but I just keep showing up and learning every day.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. When I first started, I had just a few friends and family members. I tried Google ads and Yelp ads for a month, but neither brought in much business. I was advised to give it more time, but I didn’t have the budget for that kind of marketing. So, I decided to invest in a website, and that’s when things started to change. Slowly, clients began finding me online and booking appointments.
Along the way, I’ve had some challenges with marketing companies that didn’t quite work out, but I learned a lot from those experiences.
As you know, we’re big fans of Simply Facials. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Simply Facials is all about personalized skincare. I focus on custom facials, chemical peels, and helping clients build simple, effective skincare routines for at home. What sets me apart is that I really take the time to understand each person’s skin and tailor every treatment to their unique needs. It’s not a one-size-fits-all approach. Everything is customized, so clients get exactly what their skin needs at that moment.
I’m also big on educating my clients. I want them to feel empowered to care for their skin outside of the treatment room, so I make sure they leave with the knowledge and tools they need to continue their skincare journey at home.
What I’m most proud of is the connection I’ve built with my clients. Simply Facials is known for being a place where people feel comfortable, relaxed, and genuinely cared for. My focus is on long-term results and creating a space where clients can trust that they’re getting the best personalized skincare possible. It’s all about helping them feel good in their skin and confident in their skincare routine.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I see the biggest shift in the next 5-10 years being a move toward prioritizing long-term skin health over quick fixes. Clients are becoming more educated and are looking for sustainable, results-driven solutions that support their skin in the long run. People want to build skincare routines that promote overall skin health rather than relying on short-term treatments or trends. I think we’ll see a greater emphasis on consistency and education, with clients really understanding what their skin needs and how to care for it daily. It’s about creating a partnership with clients, helping them take a more proactive approach to their skincare that leads to lasting, healthy results.
