Community Highlights: Meet Kiana Dadbin of Madaya

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kiana Dadbin.

Hi Kiana, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started Madaya this past summer as a way to express my entrepreneurial spirit. As I witnessed the fashion industry go through major changes, I noticed a shift in products that were receiving increased demand by consumers. Bandanas, specifically, were receiving attention worldwide. I decided to make a bandana for myself but wanted to add my own touch to it. In an effort to make a luxurious product, I used suede and silk and picked out patterns that I knew would add character to the product. As I started to dive deeper into the process, I found myself fully creating a collection – one that I was extremely passionate about. Overall, there were three concepts that inspired the launch – relevancy, practicality, and the desire to be different. I wanted to create a product that would be applicable to the new era while still maintaining a sense of uniqueness. One that would turn heads and draw attention from every angle. This is how Madaya came to life.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There were definitely some challenges along the way, but my passion for the project allowed me to enjoy every moment of it. Launching a brand, whether big or small, requires a great sense of time management. As a third-year college student, I found it challenging at times to balance both work and school life. But dedicating the time to handpick fabrics and work with suppliers and manufacturers daily has allowed me to learn the production process from start to finish. Every obstacle became a learning experience and with every challenge that has come my way my commitment to the brand has grown deeper.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I like to define Madaya as a brand made for the modern muse. For the one who defines his or her own fashion taste based on what makes them feel personally confident. When making my product, I really valued its versatility. I designed the bandanas in a way that would give the consumer the freedom to style it however he or she desires. While some might prefer wearing the bandana around their neck, others might like it wrapped around their hat or worn as a headscarf. That’s the beauty of the collection. It gives the consumer the freedom to express their style in many different ways, making it even more unique.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My advice is simple, it’s to START. I always knew I wanted to be an entrepreneur but didn’t know how or when to begin. Growing up in the fashion industry, I was constantly surrounded by designers and stylists. The thought of making my own product was very intimidating but when I saw the opportunity unfold right before my eyes, I knew I wasn’t going to let it slide. Another piece of advice is to think big but start small. When I first started the bandana collection, I wasn’t completely sure how or when I would expand the brand. But with every step forward, my vision continues to grow and evolve. I’m already planning a collection for 2021 and could not be any more excited!
