Today, we’d like to introduce you to Khatya Albano.
Hi Khatya, we’re so excited to have you on the platform. Before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
From an early age, I knew I wanted to help people heal. My inspiration came from experiencing the impacts of intergenerational trauma. I was driven by a desire to develop my capacity to assist others in knowing and accepting their inner truths and fostering healthy connections with themselves and others.
I began studying psychology in high school and continued into college. After graduating, I wasn’t sure which avenue of therapy I wanted to pursue, but I knew I wanted to continue with the healing arts. My fascination with the mind-body connection led me to train in massage therapy.
Realizing I wanted to help others on a deeper psychological level, I enrolled at a Buddhist graduate school, where I deepened my understanding of the mind’s mechanics and reconnected with my spirituality and faith.
Through my training to become a psychotherapist, I became reacquainted with the mind-body connection and experienced the profound importance of embodiment and how it is deeply intertwined with our emotional, mental, and spiritual wellbeing.
In 2020, I began my training as a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, and I continue to deepen my knowledge and practice in this field.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Establishing a business and developing a career while navigating life’s personal challenges and consistently supporting others through their struggles is undoubtedly demanding.
I have faced significant family loss, grief, and the challenges of a pandemic. Through it all, I am fortunate to receive support for my healing, nurture my community, and experience the rewarding process of witnessing others navigate their difficulties.
Thanks. What else should our readers know about your work?
I’m dedicated to helping young women struggling with feeling out of control and overwhelmed. My specialization lies in working with young adults who have a history of childhood trauma, aiming to foster compassionate and healthy relationships with themselves and others. Trained in Somatic Experiencing and EMDR, I integrate these body-based practices with Attachment Theory to empower my clients to unlock deeper connections within themselves and create a more fulfilling life.
My therapeutic approach is a collaborative effort focused on creating new ways of being that support individuality and promote positive changes in relationships with oneself, others, and the environment. My intuitive, nurturing, and validating style fosters a supportive space for growth and healing. Grounded in curiosity, compassion, collaboration, trust, and resilience, I strive to create a safe environment where my clients can comfortably explore their emotions and experiences.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
My nurturing and validating approach, along with my dedication to creating a supportive space for growth and healing, are the qualities I consider most important to my success as a therapist. These qualities help me build trust with my clients and facilitate their journey towards healing and self-discovery.
