Community Highlights: Meet Kevin Velasco of Friendsss Production Company

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevin Velasco

Hi Kevin, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My journey started off as a young aspiring cinematographer dreaming of filming for Hollywood films. In the meantime of pursuing a big dream, I would use my friends for models in my travel films. After a couple of those, I turned to a little more advanced category, which was spec ad videos. These gained a lot of positive attention from my followers. Which led to not only friends asking me to film but their friends and family asking me to film for them. Of course I was up for it! Although, I was getting close to finishing school up and starting to get more experienced in my craft. This left me feeling bored with my retail job and wanting to do more with my camera skills.

Thankfully I was reached out by my first business client who was a good friend from middle school. She trusted me enough to pay me consistently and create content for her beauty lounge. This gave me a great portfolio to start with and let people know that I was a real videographer with clients. So I made it a plan after covid was over I was going to leave my consistent retail job and start freelancing.

This was the beginning of FRIENDSSS Production Company.

After I quit it was full steam ahead and never looked back. There has definitely been slow times where I wonder if I made the right decision but with the right support from my family and clients I kept it going.

What started as just a beginner with a camera has turned into a full fledged video marketing business with a quality video storytelling portfolio.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been a road of ups and downs for myself and my video business. From being unsure if I will have another gig two weeks from now and riding the highs of a bigger budget client. I would not change it for the world and I can genuinely say that I love the work I do. I’m grateful for the clients who have turned into friends along the way.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We specialize in creating engaging videos to help you promote your brand on any social media, we showcase event highlights, and enhance your website with powerful promotional content. Whether you need a dynamic social media video, a memorable event recap, or high-quality marketing material for your business. We’re here to bring your vision to life and boost your business presence online.

I believe what sets us apart from others is we genuinely care about how we tell your story and try to make it look the closest to what you’re envisioning to the best of our abilities. We care about how it performs online whether that’s views, conversions, and your audience’s opinions. Lastly, we nurture every one of our clients relationships with us.

I would like the readers to know our services cater to businesses seeking dynamic social media videos, memorable event recaps, and high-quality marketing content to boost their online presence. The business began by assisting friends with social media content which gave us great experience with criticism and interpersonal skills from a variety of projects. It has now evolved into a full-fledged video production business, passionate about crafting unique and impactful content for each client.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
My advice to anyone who is interested in getting into the video production industry is don’t be afraid of the smaller paid gigs. If you aren’t getting paid see if you can find value in other ways. Maybe the value of that project is in referrals, or portfolio pieces.

My mentorship came from a free gig, which at the time I didn’t think had much benefit. Although that relationship has gave me consistent gigs for about 3 years and blossomed into a great friendship.

All in all don’t be afraid to put yourself out there. If you don’t tell them what you do, how is anyone supposed to know?
