Today we’d like to introduce you to Ken Grayson.
Hi Ken, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My name is Ken Grayson, and I am the second generation of ownership at Grayson’s Tune Town, one of the most beloved music stores in all of California. My parents established the business back in 1953 and in our earlier years, we started as a record store before gradually moving into musical instruments of all types and music lessons. We are also proud to say that we are a family business as my daughter, Kathy, and grandson, Connor are both represented in the store as well.
We’re known not only for our excellent service but our selection of musical instruments at affordable prices. Additionally, we offer music lessons and guitar repairs. My staff is knowledgeable and treats our customers as family. We have over 500 stringed instruments on display and take care to ensure each instrument is setup and playing great for our customers. We carry the majority of major brands including Fender, Gibson, Martin, Taylor, Gretsch, Yamaha, and more. We also have some of the most sought-after boutique pedals in the industry, sure to attract the enthusiast and the professional.
We are proud of our involvement in our surrounding community as well. I myself have served as the president of both the Chamber of Commerce and Montrose Shopping Park Association Board of Directors serving 180 businesses over the past 40 years. If you haven’t shopped in Montrose, you are missing a wonderful experience of friendly, caring business owners and wonderful restaurants.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
The past three years have truly been an interesting and frustrating experience. COVID affected everyone and in all my years of doing business, I’ve never seen some of the things we’ve seen over this time period. I think I have now, finally seen it all! We have been nimble in navigating the climate and we have to give credit to our incredibly faithful customer base that has supported us during this crazy time.
We’ve been impressed with Grayson’s Tune Town, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Grayson’s is everyone’s happy place. We believe in treating our customers as friends and family and we believe in positive conversations and experiences. I enjoy seeing children getting started with music, whether it’s selecting an instrument for the first time or coming out of a lesson studio with a big smile on their face after learning the latest radio tune. We believe in long-term relationships here at Grayson’s and have had many multi-generational customers shop with us.
