Today we’d like to introduce you to Katrina Chan.
Hi Katrina, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
It all started with our first dog, Toshi. Greg (dog dad) and I got him when Toshi was just a puppy. Like most first-time dog owners, we only knew to feed kibble. At some point, Toshi stopped eating his kibble and his meal would go untouched. As Toshi is a growing puppy, we were worried and tried just about everything – from wet food to freeze dried food to adding bone broth to his kibble. Nothing worked.
During our research, we discovered raw feeding. Since the switch to raw, Toshi has never missed a meal. We also saw huge improvements in his overall wellbeing after switching diets.
Encouraged by our success, we were eager to find out more about raw feeding. We learned that treats and chews can be given as meal toppers and snacks. However, to our dismay, we noticed that a lot of brands were using ingredients we could not pronounce or even heard of. That’s when we decided to make our own single-ingredient treats and chews.
From then, our family and friends would ask us to make treats and chews for their own dogs. From a $30 dehydrator to a larger commercial dehydrator, we started to make larger batches of treats and chews. After learning that many dog owners were experiencing what we experienced, we decided to start our shop to help fellow dog owners find healthier, single-ingredient treats for their pets.
Almost one year into creating our small business, we are so grateful for all of our supporters and we can’t wait to see how our journey will unfold.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There were many struggles as we adapted to the demand. As with running any small business, we learned that we wear many hats. Some days, we’re sourcing meats to purchase, picking up orders, prepping/cutting meats, and other days we could be packing orders, dropping off packages, marketing, photographing, engaging with followers on social media, and many other tasks that come with running a small business.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Wild n Fresh Treats?
We are a small dog treat business that offers a healthier alternative to conventional dog treats and chews. Many conventional dog treats are baked at high temperatures, losing many nutrients vital to your pet’s overall health and wellbeing. At Wild n Fresh Treats, we dehydrated single-ingredient treats/chews without any additives or preservatives at low temperatures. This way, the nutrients are better preserved and your pets will thank you for them!
We’re most proud of the community that we have built. We couldn’t have done it without each and every one of #WildnFam. Whether they’ve supported us since day one or just recently, they help make us who we are.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
We learned to be more kind to one another. Everyone is going through something whether their social media shows it or not. The pandemic is already a life-changing event so it’s important to just be more patient and kind during this time.
