

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonathan Washington.
Hi Jonathan, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Hi I am Jonathan Washington owner of House of Smoke BBQ LV. I originally entered the food industry in 2017 along side my wife Ke’Aira Washington. At the time we created a large variety of home cooked meals delivering right to our customers. We started cooking outside of our house and gaining customers that will place orders daily for delivery to their workplace or residence. After 6 months of gaining clients, preparing delicious meals and delivering greatness we looked at our operations and notice it was not how we wanted to operate. We discussed a lot of changes in which we knew will take time and hard work. A few of the changes was proper food transporting equipment and we would loved to have a trailer or brick and mortar.
After stopping months and years went by and we adventured a few different businesses outside of the food industry. Event planning is one of them which works hand and hand with catering.
Come 2023 I decided to work hard and get back into this space of cooking but narrowing down the niche to BBQ.
I purchased a smoker off Facebook marketplace and at that time I knew the timing was right. From just grilling on a smoker to purchasing a food trailer the leveling up has been real. It’s definitely a process with all the permits and rules to operating a food business but by the grace of god we have landed great opportunities and partnerships with the many big corporations.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No way it has not. The hardest part of this industry if owning a trailer and not being able to operate in high traffic areas or even in areas that you have to pull your own traffic. Everyone has their fees when it come to the state, city, health department, and many other agencies that requires application and fees. Once you go sit down and get a understanding of how to fill out the application and you know the fees you ask questions and it comes off as hey you have to pay all this money but the list of things you can not do over power what you can do to make money to stay in business. Then you pay all these fees and they are harassing you but not the people who have no permits.

We specialize in homemade BBQ with a twist of our roots. Argentina, Louisiana, and Texas.
Our top dishes are Mac n cheese, Mac n cheese with briskets, RibTips, Ribs and Empanadas. Let’s not forget our house bbq sauce in which we hope to gain information soon to bottle it up. What sets us apart from others is making 95% of our meals from scratch. Hard work and all love placed into our food. We have talked to and seen so many people in the food industry and to say always say work smarter not harder and use all canned or premade items. We just choose to do things a different way. We are very proud in our brand’s accomplishments within the first year we grew into our food trailer and partnered with major companies to feed their staff. Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
What makes me happy is the feedback from customers and also seeing customers return. This is because it shows that people really enjoy our home cook meals and the everyday hard work is worth it.
