Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeff McCann.
Hi Jeff, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I am a real estate agent in the greater Los Angeles area. I am in love with my job, and I love the communities in which I work.
Background
I am from originally Washington State. I grew up in a small town outside of Seattle. I played football in college and earned degrees in History & American Studies. After I graduated in 2003, I moved to Southern California.
Teacher
I was a high school history & AP geography teacher for over fifteen years. My appreciation for and my knowledge of the communities of the city of Los Angeles derives from my love of the region’s history. When I moved here, I immersed myself in the rich history of the region from the Spanish colonial period to the modern era.
Football Coach
I have coached football from 2005 to the present day. I have coached both in high school and in NCAA Division 1 college. In 2008, I was a strength & conditioning coach at the University of Idaho. While I was coaching at the University of Idaho, I earned my Masters in Science Degree. Not many real estate agents have a master’s degree!
Family
I am happily married, and my wife and I have twin seven-year-olds. We live in Simi Valley. My wife is a Latina and a first-generation immigrant from the Valley, and I have been so fortunate to experience the unique Latin culture of Los Angeles from the lens of my wife and her family. The majority of my time spent away from the real estate world revolves around my kid’s sports/activity schedules. I sell real estate, and I live for my kids.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I have had struggles just like many people have had in the business world.
Professionally speaking, the obstacle/ challenge that I initially faced was the realization that I could not financially support my family in Southern California on a teaching salary. This led me to make the jump into the business world.
The world of business is full of stories of failures that later bred success. These experiences, both positive and negative, ultimately contribute to the seasoned businessperson. Through failure, we develop tools to effectively survive as well as thrive in the competitive world of being an entrepreneur.
This phenomenon of business failure came to fruition when the company I was Vice President of Operations suddenly closed, and I found myself immediately unemployed. At that moment, facing that type of momentous financial challenge, I had to reinvent myself, so to speak, to be able to provide for my family. That transformation witnessed me diving headfirst into the real estate field. This decision to move into real estate is the best decision I have ever made.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about The Chavira Group?
The Chavira Group, which I am fortunate to a team member of, brings 23 years of experience in real estate– delivering customers, real estate investors, and friends (referrals) with the highest customer service and returns on their investment. With sharp knowledge of the local market, our team has helped many people in the greater Los Angeles area find their dream home. As a realtor my first priority is to effectively serve the needs of my clients. I listen intently to my client’s wants and needs so that we achieve the best outcome in every transaction. This will ensure that the buying or selling process is fun, easy, and stress-free. Good business is built on communication, dedication, and transparency. No single transaction is ever as important as the relationship I build with my clients. Through compelling listing marketing, expert negotiations, and the ability to keep deals on track calmly and professionally, The Chavira Group has been able to transact over 1,000 escrows throughout California!
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Through my years of classroom teaching, I developed an important skill which has significantly contributed to my success in real estate. This skill set of active listening and being able to effectively discover common interests or connections to build rapport with any type of client has given me a distinct advantage when it comes to networking. The art of being able to hold a conversation with any person from any demographic is a certain skill I possess, which allows me to develop networking circles and “real estate farming” groups that contribute to sales! I love speaking with different people and learning their stories.
