Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Howard
Hi Jason, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started off in the music marketing space, building and curating playlists for music lovers to listen to, then graduating to having independent artists pitch songs to be placed on the playlists to gain exposure. Through that process, I went through a nearly 2-year trial by fire of internet and social media marketing. After getting established there, I moved on to the Music Distribution and Talent Management space. Leveraging the network of curators that I met while building my playlists and making long lasting relationships with artists that would submit songs to me. To date, though marketing, management and distribution my companies are responsible for nearly 15 million streams independently.
The Artist Management space led me into starting some platforms of content creation for my clients, focusing on high quality photos and images to start the branding process. This also led to the start of teaming up with some music industry professionals to start the Valuable Information Podcast, starting a number of live performance events and heavily pitching my clients for opportunities worldwide.
In the process of pitching artists for journalistic publications, I grew increasingly frustrated with the lack of care or attention that was being shown to artists who have not yet made it to the mainstream. In my eyes, these are the superstars of tomorrow that should be treated as such. Every player selected at the NFL or NBA draft will not go on to be an All Star or Hall of Famer, but they are treated well and respected because of the talent they possess and the potential they have to be stars. I feel the same about aspiring and independent artists – and creatives in general. The Chrd Mag was created to shine a proper light on tomorrow’s creative icons.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth process at all! Lol. It was a 2 year start up process working with some really bright people that had experience in the magazine space. I had an intern working with me at the time on the initial brand identity of the magazine. In the end, it was me taking a hard look at what I really wanted to provide to the journalistic space, I wanted to provide something that was new, fresh, innovative, in depth and still resonated with the social media generation.
After completely figuring out our path, core demographic and the image we wanted. I was able to gain some key staff members, and we launched about a year ago and have been figuring it out every sense. We’ve had periods of tremendous growth where we’ve maintained a page reach of 250k per month for as long as 3 months and have had months where our reach has been as low as 30k per month. We’ve tried to take lesions from both sides and stay consistent with everything we do while providing something new every once in a while.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Motivated Media was birthed from a culmination of all my previous experience in music marketing, management and platform creation. It is bringing together and separating each area of media and content that I’m producing and giving them a path and direction.
The Chrd Mag is the first branch of the tree that is Motivated Media. We are extremely proud of the reception we have received so far.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
