Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamie Choi.
Hi Jamie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My love coffee grew as I took a trip back to my home country of New Zealand. Over there, the coffee scene is phenomenal. There, I came up with the idea of bringing Flat Whites and Long Blacks to Los Angeles. We opened up right in the middle of the pandemic in August 2020. It was tough as the rules were strict for restaurants. On our first day, we had just three customers come in. But after some time, word got around and customers came from all over to get some authentic New Zealand meatpies; because what better than a coffee and a pie! And plus, you can’t find many meatpies spots in LA. We bake all our stuff in-house including the panini breads, croissants, bagels and more!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Because of Covid restrictions, labor shortages, and inflation during the three years we have been opened, it has been extremely tough. We did long hours and more just to keep it going. We didn’t raise prices till the beginning of 2023, so a lot of the stuff was coming from our own pockets.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We specialize in specialty foods such as:
– NZ Meatpies and Sausage Rolls
– NZ pastries
– Baked goods
– Artisan Sandwiches and salads
– Artisan Avocado Toasts
– Hand Rolled Bagels
– Specialty Coffees
We bake all our stuff in-house. Each item is made by hand and we bake them fresh daily.
What makes you happy?
When customers try out our food and drinks and then come and tell us that it brings back memories or that our food is amazing. It makes us extremely happy.
