Community Highlights: Meet Jaclyn Lim of Looozer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaclyn Lim

Jaclyn, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
From 2021-2023, I began freelancing as a social media content creator & a social media strategist while my boyfriend was working his 9-5 as a graphic designer. We loved what we were doing but knew we wanted something of our own.

Looozer has a very special story and it all began from our love for banana bread. My boyfriend and I both love to bake. And for almost a year, we were trying to tweak our recipe to make it the best banana bread we’ve ever tasted.

After sharing it with friends and family, it became so memorable that many encouraged us to try sell it. Soon after, we began creating Looozer.

So why Looozer? Looozer is a community, cafe and clothing brand. As much as we hope to turn it into a cafe, we still had other passions. My partner and I both love to connect with others and fashion. But ofcourse, before getting to where we are now, we had our doubts. We always thought we were losers and what would make others like what we do. After overcoming that, we’ve decided that “loser(us)”, “looser(clothes)” = Looozer.

With my boyfriend’s lover for coffee and my love for matcha, instinctively, we explored a lot and found suppliers that best fit our brand.

We started our business in Malaysia but have all means to bring it around the world. One step at a time. So hence, why we landed in the US.

We are currently doing pop ups as well as catering. After connecting and meeting more people, we began doing brand collaborations. It’s been only 7 months into our business and we’d say we’re still on the right track. As of now, our goal is to open a cafe by day restaurant by night concept store in Malaysia, and next, to open one in the US!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There were definitely alot of challenges and I believe, many more to come. Building a business with someone else is one thing but building it with your significant other is another. This is something that’s just known.

There was once, early on in the business, we argued over what cup sizes and shape we wanted. Looking back its such a silly argument.

Coming from a social media/marketing perspective, I’m always thinking what can we do to pull people in, to catch people’s attention. While my boyfriend thinks alot about the taste and quality. We both not wrong and I think both our perspective is needed to make this business work. We both have learned to meet in the middle. Because in the end, we both just want whats best for our business.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Looozer is a community brand that revolves around cafe, community and clothing.

Cafe: We often go to cafes and 5/10 of where we go to actually have mediocre food/drinks. So what we do is take the best quality, most natural ingredients and make it ACTUALLY good. For example, we are currently serving asian inspired matcha. But one thing about matcha, we often find ourselves going out to get matcha and end up tasting SO BLAND. As a matcha lover myself, I’ve experienced that sooo many times and get so disappointed because matcha aren’t cheap. So at Looozer, we try our best to bring the freshest and tastiest to our customers! Each recipe is carefully curated and we always always welcome feedbacks!

Clothing: My boyfriend has a passion for sewing and sew for days. This idea came about when he took the clothes he thrifted and transform it into something more functional for himself. Sustainability and functionality both fits our brand very well. He then created lipbalm holder in a pants, an irregular shapped pants and so many more fun stuff.

Community: This is the pillar of our brand, Looozer. Without our support, friends, customers, we wouldnt be standing here. I’d say most of our followers like Looozer not just for our stuff, but also for us. We love connecting with people and just talking to people has helped us build a community of wonderful, wonderful people. Customers became friends and it’s always so humbling to see them come back again and again for us.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I have never worked a 9-5 in my entire life. I’ve always known my whole life that I wanted to do something so much more. After graduating, I’ve tried a part time and did alot of freelancing. There was one point where I worked 5 jobs and had videos of a day in my life as a girl working 5 jobs. I was a bobarista, dog sitter/walker, photographer, picnic coordinator, and a small business owner. But it was the happiest I’ve ever felt eventhough I wasnt the richest.

Many of my friends asked why didn’t I want to work a 9-5 since there’s stability but I believe that in your 20s you fight to live your dream life. I’d rather fight with blood, sweat and tears to get to my dream life than to have a stable job with stable income. I love working for myself and building something of my own
