Today we’d like to introduce you to Iman Cheng.
Hi Iman, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started my music studio during the pandemic, I designed the space, picked the color, logos, I even assembled every single furniture by myself.
I am very fortunate to have great people surrounded me and support me throughout the journey.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No, it never was a smooth ride. We experienced the Pasadena wild fire not long ago. My business had to close for three weeks, and i lost some clients who happened to be the victims of the fire.
There was a period of time, people would stay in because of the bad air quality.
Also, the AI/ social media platforms encourage people to self taught or instant learning. Less people come in and do in person learning. We are trying to bring people back to the community.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We are the AAPI, female owned music studio. My goal is to provide a safe space for music lovers. Currently we offer piano, vocal, guitar, sax/ clarinet, and drums lessons, and we also rent out our space to studio teaching, recitals, rehearsals, and small events. We regularly host events, we had open mic, sound bath, women music mixers, holiday concerts, student performances just name a few.
I want to promote my space to record release event, songwriter show cases, composer lectures, and musician workshops. In the morning, I want to do community services, such as yoga, senior choir, mommy and me.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I would like to extend to another bigger space.
