Community Highlights: Meet Gabriel Arroyo of Soaring Families Counseling

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gabriel Arroyo.

Hi Gabriel, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My desire to become a therapist and help others began with my own journey as a child. I was diagnosed with Type I Diabetes when I was 10 years old and was provided a therapist to help with the adjustments related to this new lifestyle. The experience left me with the desire to help others in similar circumstances and life changing situations. I was persistent in creating my career path in becoming a therapist to help others. My desire is and always was to help within my own private practice to have the flexibility to meet varying individual, couples, and family needs.
My specialties in my practice now are focusing on adjustments with chronic illness and relationship skills and improvement.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There have definitely been some struggles along the way, from completing a Masters program, obtaining my Marriage and Family Therapist license, to building the practice I have now. While completing my undergrad program to meet the academic requirements to being accepted into a graduate program, I was balancing multiple part-time jobs while living out of my car. Throughout my graduate program I was balancing multiple jobs while completing my program on top of preparing to start my own practice once licensed. All of my education and practice building has been funded by myself through multiple jobs and loans.

As you know, we’re big fans of Soaring Families Counseling . For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?

As the lead clinician and owner, my specialties are working with couples improving and strengthening their relationships and supporting individuals and families adjusting with chronic illness. My approach therapeutically is known for being direct but compassionate in challenging my clients to achieve their designated goals. I am proud of the success rate I have with the couples and clients I have worked with within my career for the past 13 years.

As a continual growing practice, we are always looking to help within the community and throughout the state with any potential client needs and offer free consultations to see if my practice is the best fit to help.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
When looking for a mentor or networking, what has worked well for me was consulting with individuals and practices that I inspired to be like. I highly recommend surrounding yourself with people you strive to replicate with their success or surpassing. When networking I would always surround myself with agencies and business owners that my practice could compliment their services in and vice versa. Many try to network with individuals to benefit them, but ultimately the best networking comes with mutual benefit. How can your business or practice help the other business and in return help your business grow as well.
