Community Highlights: Meet FOLM Studio of FOLM

Today we’d like to introduce you to FOLM Studio.

Thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
We’re Anna and Cindy, co-founders of FOLM — a women-only fitness studio offering a range of classes inspired by our backgrounds and grounded in the principles of cycle health.

Our journey started from personal experiences in the fitness and wellness world that left us feeling more depleted than empowered. Anna comes from a professional dance background and spent years in a toxic dance culture that prioritized appearance over well-being. Cindy has been a longtime fitness instructor and studied nutrition, yet even with all that knowledge, she still found herself overtrained, under-recovered, and frustrated with the lack of results.

Despite different paths, we both reached the same turning point: realizing that pushing through intense workouts all month long — without honoring our bodies’ natural hormonal shifts — was doing more harm than good. So we started listening. We began syncing our workouts, food, and lifestyle habits with our menstrual cycles — and the transformation was undeniable.

That shift inspired us to create FOLM: a space where women can feel seen, heard, and supported in every phase of their cycle. Our studio offers a variety of classes — including barre, reformer and mat Pilates, circuit training, and ballet — all designed to honor the fluctuations of the female body.

At FOLM, we believe fitness shouldn’t be about fighting your body — it should be about understanding it. Most wellness models are built around male physiology, and research on women’s health is still far too limited. We’re here to change that narrative.

FOLM is more than a studio — it’s a movement. A place for women to reconnect with their bodies, find strength through softness, and move in a way that’s intuitive, empowering, and deeply aligned.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely not a smooth road — but we didn’t expect it to be. Like most founders, we faced our share of challenges, and one of the biggest was funding.

Because our concept — a women-only studio centered on cycle syncing and female physiology — was outside the traditional fitness mold, we often found ourselves pitching to rooms full of people who just didn’t get it. More often than not, it was men in suits telling us they didn’t see dollar signs in “periods.” It was disheartening — not just because they weren’t interested, but because they completely missed the point of what we’re doing. This isn’t a niche — it’s half the population.

We also faced pressure to water down or change our concept to fit more traditional fitness trends — like turning FOLM into a heated studio or copying existing franchise models that didn’t align with our vision at all. But we weren’t willing to compromise on the core of what FOLM is: a space created by women, for women, rooted in education, body literacy, and movement that supports hormonal health.

The process taught us a lot about resilience and staying grounded in our mission — even when the path isn’t clear-cut or easy. And honestly, those challenges only deepened our commitment to create something radically different and truly supportive for women.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At FOLM, we revolutionize women’s fitness by aligning movement with the body’s natural rhythms instead of forcing it into one-size-fits-all programs. Guided by The FOLM Method™—the six classic Pilates principles elevated with modern hormonal science—we create classes that ebb and flow with every phase of the menstrual cycle, from gentle sculpting on low-energy days to power-packed circuits when vitality peaks.

Our twin sanctuaries, the Reformer Room and Weight Room, offer carefully curated sessions that feel like a dialogue with your body. Knowledgeable instructors listen first, coach second, and always empower you to choose the intensity that honors how you feel today.

FOLM exists to be a safe, judgment-free community where women of every age, background, and ability feel seen and supported. Through in-studio guidance, cycle-sync education, and expert partnerships in nutrition and mental health, we champion sustainable progress and self-compassion. Together, we move with purpose, recover with intention, and thrive—strong, aligned, and confident in every phase.
