Today we’d like to introduce you to Erika Renae
Hi Erika, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
In late 2022, some of my out-of-state family members came to visit. One evening, as we sat around the table talking about Compton, CA, they shared negative opinions about the city—even though they had never been there. I decided to highlight some of the positive aspects of Compton and said, “Compton Isn’t Dangerous.” A family member then responded, “You should put that on a shirt.” And that’s exactly what I did.
When I first started my brand, I ended up taking a break. After a year and a half, I decided to pick it back up because people loved the message behind it and were reaching out to place orders. I’ve gotten to where I am today by surrounding myself with supportive and encouraging people and treating what I do as a passion-driven hobby.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
This journey has had its ups and downs, but that’s part of anything worth doing in life. With my brand, “Compton Isn’t Dangerous,” I have to push ten times harder because it challenges and disproves the negative stereotypes that have surrounded the city long before I was born.
Since I design and print everything myself, I’ve faced challenges like creative blocks and procrastination along the way. The mission I want to achieve with my brand is a big one, and sometimes I question whether I’m capable of pulling it off. But whenever self-doubt creeps in, I remind myself that this vision wasn’t given to me without a purpose. I can do it!

Any big plans?
My future plans include opening a clothing store and creating a facility where young people can come to express themselves, develop their talents, and bring their creative ideas to life.
