Today we’d like to introduce you to Elani Kay.
Hi Elani, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
When I turned 18 and started college, I was introduced to network marketing. I was introduced to self-development books, books about investing, how to become a millionaire, and how to think like a millionaire. While in my college classes I often found myself daydreaming about making money, so eventually I stopped attending college and decided to move from California to Hawaii. I chose a job that would teach me the lesson of hard work. I chose to do door-to-door knocking for Kirby vacuums. I walked to work each day. If you know, you know. I walked miles every day in the hot Hawaii sun. I learned about the island and its people. I went back to California for a month to refresh myself, but when I returned to Hawaii I gave myself two weeks to find a place and get a job. I ended up applying to work for Clear Channel which is now iheart radio.
After a year of having my own department, a new job was created for me. I was given a lot of freedom in my job and was able to create hiring and firing processes, systems, and create teams. I felt my leadership skills were a strength and my resourcefulness. I moved back to California five years later and then I partnered up with a gentleman who owned an online radio station. I also got involved in another network marketing business and I learned even more about business, money, and how to make money while you sleep. My son started to act and a few years into it, he got signed with a big Hollywood talent agency. After 18 months of driving back and forth from Northern California to Southern California sometimes three times a week, we moved to Southern California. My son ended up booking a major National commercial and a few TV shows, so he was forced to join SAG-AFTRA within the first year of officially being in Los Angeles.
A few years after being in Los Angeles, I purchased a business and then birthed 4000 WEST. Our clients that have filmed, had meetings, or shot at 4000 WEST has been the likes of Paula Abdul, Morris Day, Trinidad James, Kelly Rowland, Netflix, BET, Bravo TV, Ray-J, TooShort, Kurupt, Edi Mean, Will Gittens, Michael Colyar, Andrew Gray, Zab Judah, Vlad, Kid from Kid N’ Play, and more. I am also the co-founder of “Talent Agency Guide,” co-owner of “Frenzee Broadcasting,” and owner of CEITA TV. I am also an International best-selling author, an energy life coach, a speaker, and the host of my own show “Elani Talk.”
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
First, I’d like to say thank you for reaching out to me for this interview and I appreciate your platform. In previous interviews, I shared briefly about my upbringing, but I didn’t share some of the more personal intimate hardships I had faced. I am a California native. In high school, I was assaulted by a fellow classmate. He ended up having to do community service and was expelled. I don’t remember much about how I felt emotionally, but I do know I did not talk to anyone after the incident occurred other than the school counselor when I first reported it. In college, I was date raped. I didn’t consider that to be the case until much later. I didn’t talk to anyone about that either. After college, I moved to Hawaii and had my share of traumatic experiences there as well. I had to go to court to request a restraining order which was granted.
I became a Mom in Hawaii and would later move back to California. I became a Mom two more times and I now have three incredibly amazing sons. After I became a full-time Mother 100%, I went through another experience that was one of the hardest experiences I would have to face. I endured life-and-death experiences almost a few times a week at one point. Through some of the most outrageous experiences and threats in my life, I continued to push through, help run a business, and then even purchased a business of my own. This business would turn out to be the birth of something greater in my life. My sons grew older and as a result, I was able to take on more. I co-founded an acting academy and my business partner and I wrote a book for actors together. We developed a coaching program that helps aspiring and working actors learn the secrets, the way, and also intense self-development that will contribute to their success as an actor or actress. The company is called “Talent Agency Guide.” I am also the co-owner of a company called “Frenzee Broadcasting.” We produce an FM Radio show “The After Party Radio Show” that’s syndicated in six markets, we produce “The Outlaw Show,” and we are also producing a new travel adventure TV show. I am also the owner of 4000 WEST located in Burbank, CA. This is an entertainment building that houses entertainment-based businesses and provides recording and filming space for creators, artists, creatives, networks, and more. The building is 7,900 square feet and has a white cyc, green screen, a multi-purpose studio, office set, conference room, podcast studio, offices, and more. I have been able to help support, assist, and provide hundreds of people a space to create and get their message out there to the world whether it be through film, music, creative content, events, workshops, photography, or through writing. These were all birthed during one of the most treacherous times in my life. I pushed forward through that and I am now living life on my terms. I am creating my world and creating a unique experience of life for myself.
I have also incorporated more of my passion which is energy life coaching where I work with clients on helping them clear the darkness so they can shine in their light. I am their greatest advocate, their biggest fan, and a valuable guide to help them with the direction that they’d like to go in life. I have released a handful of International Best Selling Books. My most recent book goes into more detail about what I really went through in my life. The book is called, “Lead With V.IV.A.” It’s available on Amazon or you can contact me directly for an autographed version. The book is truly inspiring and heart-wrenching, but also motivating. I am also filming Season 2 of my show called “Elani Talk,” which features guests who have endured extreme trauma and hardships and overcame it all. Life isn’t a smoothly paved road, but it’s the peaks and valleys that teach us the most. Overall, despite any challenges I have overcome and challenges I face now, each one has taught me something, helped me grow, and made me stronger.
As you know, we’re big fans of 4000 WEST, Life Coaching With Elani Kay, Talent Agency Guide, and Frenzee Broadcasting. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
4000 WEST is a creator’s playground. The building is located in Burbank, California. We are right near the Burbank airport. The main thing I would like people to know about 4000 WEST is that this is a space that sparks creativity.
We have a white cyc studio, a green screen wall, a multi-purpose studio, a hair & makeup studio, a conference room, a podcast studio, production offices, and more. We service independent creators, artists, creatives, photographers, production companies, networks, and more. The energy and vibes of 4000 WEST are all about positivity and light.
Life Coaching With Elani Kay is my life coaching practice. I am an energy healer which means I work on the energy in and around you by removing dark energy and replacing it with light energy. In sessions with me we work on goal setting, identifying gifts and talents, healing, trauma healing, energy clearing, and affirmations, and I am just your greatest cheerleader and support. I am proud to say that what I do is transformational work as the lives of my clients have transformed fully.
Talent Agency Guide is a company I co-founded and am part owner of. My business partner, Emmanuel King is a vibrant spirit who is the passion and heart behind this company. We are a company for working and aspiring actors and parents of child actors. We have a book out, a coaching program, and acting classes. Emmanuel is a unique and powerful energy that pours life into all of those he works with and all of that energy has gone into our book, our coaching program, and the acting classes.
Frenzee Broadcasting is a company I also co-own. Fatell, the founder and CEO is my business partner. We are a broadcasting and production company. We produce an FM Radio show called “The After Party Radio Show,” my show called “Elani Talk,” and “The Outlaw Show” with the legendary Edi Mean from Tupac’s group, The Outlawz. We are a company that is full of life, we bring fun, but also inspire.
Two of the non-profit organizations I work with are “Starts With One Today,” a foundation that serves the houseless community in Skid Row of Los Angeles. We feed, clothe, and provide hygiene kits and shoes to the houseless every Sunday morning. Thank you to our weekly donor, Whole Foods for donating all of the healthy food we are able to serve, Vegan Stops for donating vegan plates, and all of our amazing donors. The other non-profit organization I work with is PARTI Program. This organization has been around for over 25 years and we work with kids and youth. I am involved monthly to help with various activities, events, and zoom events with the students. The organization works directly with the schools and provides stipends for students to organize and lead events which builds character, confidence, and equity.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
The entertainment industry is trying to hold on to the old way, but we’ve seen attempts for things to change in a major way. There are more creatives taking control of their careers by using social media, music streaming platforms, and other various applications as their platform and their direct connection to their audience.
I believe in the next 5-10 years we will have the freedom to express how we want to express and there will be independent creatives who will have figured out how to make millions without being under the control of a label, a network, or a large company.
