Today we’d like to introduce you to Edwin Kwon.
Hi Edwin, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My name is Dr. Edwin Kwon. I’m a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon who specializes in Asian rhinoplasty, DCF rhinoplasty (a natural graft made of diced cartilage and fascia), facial fat transfer, buccal fat removal, endoscopic breast augmentation (also known as the scarless breast augmentation which involves hidden incisions made within the natural folds of the armpits), and several body-contouring procedures in Los Angeles, Beverly Hills and Newport Beach.
I went to Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and completed my General Surgery/Plastic Surgery residency at University of California, San Francisco. I also completed the USC Aesthetics Fellowship following completion of residency.
I’ve been in practice for over 12 years now and have published several papers on rhinoplasty, complex breast procedures, and abdominoplasty. I’ve also contributed to several articles on buccal fat removal, scarless breast augmentation, and more.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I’ve been fortunate to have many exceptional mentors guide me throughout my career. I believe it’s crucial to stay humble, continuously learn, and adapt to new techniques and trends. While I’ve had the support of many wonderful colleagues, establishing my practice wasn’t without challenges, particularly when dealing with less-than-honest partners early on. As a newcomer, it’s easy to be taken advantage of while finding your footing in the industry. Despite these hurdles, I feel incredibly lucky to now be surrounded by amazing employees and colleagues, thriving in a position I’m truly grateful for.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
At times, I feel like many plastic surgery clinics are too focused on quantity over quality work. My dedicated team and I are only focused on patient care and results. I don’t believe in jumping into short-lived social media trends, promoting gimmicky treatments or giving unrealistic promises when it comes to my patients.
I’ll never recommend a procedure that a patient doesn’t need or isn’t a suitable candidate for.
In my approach to achieving balanced and natural results, I often tell my patients that my goal is to have people knowing they look better, but not quite knowing why. I find that the most satisfying outcomes are the ones with subtle, yet very noticeable differences. While I do still have and operate on patients who desire more dramatic changes, my general philosophy is preserving and enhancing existing beauty.
What I think sets me apart from others is how I connect with my patients. I want to know what their concerns are and why they want certain things changed. I’m interested in their journey and want what’s best for them, not what’s best for my practice. I also turn down patients who have unrealistic or insane requests, but I try my best to be as understanding as I can. Deciding to get plastic surgery is not something simple. These are life-changing and oftentimes, irreversible decisions.
I think I am most proud when my work speaks for itself. I know it’s popular to post certain types of content online for entertainment purposes or for views, but I prefer to have patients come to me for a consultation based solely on my results.
