Today we’d like to introduce you to Edith Roman.
Hi Edith, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
I had a childhood friend who had moved out of state and was planning her wedding here in California. She had seen that I was an assistant for a wedding planner and asked if I could help her plan her wedding. I was reluctant at first because I didn’t have the full experience. She had so much confidence in me that I ended up accepting her, and we planned her wedding from start to finish. I ended up really enjoying the process. I was very fortunate because I ended up building a good working relationship with that venue and have done many weddings there over the years.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t all been smooth. I’ve had some great lessons with more experience and have made improvements in the way I work. I’ve learned some tricks along the way, some from clients and some from other colleagues. Life is a continuous lesson.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I offer day of coordination services. Most times, couples don’t realize they need a coordinator until closer to the wedding day, and that’s totally okay. I offer two packages. When a ceremony is taking place in a church, it usually has its own church coordinator who runs the rehearsal and queues everyone the day of the wedding. For cases like this, I have my Eros package where the couple only needs help with coordination for reception. I also have a package that takes care of coordination both for ceremony and reception. I’m bilingual Spanish, which is very helpful in some cases when there are family elders who don’t speak English. That makes me proud and thankful to my mother, who taught me Spanish as my first language. I treat each wedding as if the people involved are my family, and you may often hear me call the couple’s parents “mom” or “dad.” Having my couple and family have a stress-free and memorable day is special to me and is the ultimate goal.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
If I could offer any advice, I’d say learn something from each event and be open to alternative solutions. I’ve learned how to more easily run a rehearsal from other coordinators and have picked up other skills from other vendors. Vendors always support each other, especially females, because if you can build a good working relationship, it makes working together much easier and fun along the way. Don’t be afraid to reach out to others in your industry; you can build allies to help you grow and vice versa.
