Hi David, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
So, I am a professional hypnotherapist, and it has certainly been an interesting journey that led me into this profession. Hypnosis has always been a fascinating subject for me. In my younger years, I became interested in sleight-of-hand card magic. As a young adult, it was a very fun hobby, and I loved using it to amaze and entertain people. I constantly learned and practiced new sleights and enjoyed incorporating the psychology of misdirection. Over time, I became aware of street magicians that were beginning to incorporate bits of stage hypnosis into their magic routines and were doing incredible things. This left a significant impact on me as I began to witness the power of working with the subconscious part of the mind and how effective hypnosis could be used.
This interest stayed with me, and when I pursued my master’s degree in mental health counseling, I anticipated learning more about it. Unfortunately, the curriculum didn’t delve deeply into hypnosis, prompting me to later explore it on my own.
After completing my master’s degree in 2014, I worked for several years with abused and neglected children as a talk therapist. While impactful, it was challenging to build trust and address root causes of behavior due to the transient nature of their circumstances. This experience later inspired me to look for more effective healing modalities.
As I returned to my research on hypnosis, I eventually discovered a modality called 5-PATH Hypnotherapy. This is a very clinical and systematic approach to working with the subconscious part of the mind to address the emotional root causes of many psychological and behavioral issues; quite often it leads to profound and lasting healing. Going through the training, becoming certified, and later, a board-certified practitioner, has had a tremendous impact on me and my ability to help people. Using this type of therapy, I have witnessed clients healing and transforming in a remarkably short amount of time, which was exactly what I had been searching for.
So, after years of working in the mental health profession as a talk therapist, I now specialize in the therapeutic use of hypnosis to help people work through many of the same issues. I have combined my knowledge and experience in mental health therapy with hypnosis. By working directly with the subconscious part of the mind, I can often help my clients to achieve results much faster and more powerfully than traditional talk therapy.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
While the work that I do with hypnosis is quite impactful, there are still a lot of fears and misperceptions about it that have been instilled by Hollywood. Some people believe that hypnosis is a type of mind control, that they may be forced to tell their secrets or do the silly things that they might have seen in stage shows. In reality, hypnosis is a normal and natural state of mind, and we experience it all the time in our everyday lives. We often experience light states of hypnosis as we lose track of time while watching a movie, scrolling on our phone, or find ourselves really immersed in a good book. Sometimes we might miss our exit on the freeway because we are so deep in thought – this is actually a phenomenon called ‘highway hypnosis’.
The truth is, a person cannot be forced into hypnosis, so entering a hypnotic state with a therapist is a collaborative process, where the client remains fully aware, in control, and deeply focused. It’s not about taking over someone’s mind but rather helping them access a part of their own mind that they rarely use consciously. Despite its therapeutic power, these misconceptions often make people hesitant to seek it out, which can be one of the biggest challenges in this work.
Another challenge hypnotherapists face is building credibility in a skeptical world. Although hypnosis has a strong research base and decades of clinical success, it’s not always fully understood or accepted within mainstream mental health and medical circles. Many of us find ourselves acting as both practitioners and educators and have to help people see that hypnotherapy is a legitimate path toward emotional healing and behavioral change.
Running a private practice also brings its own hurdles. Like many healing professionals, hypnotherapists often wear multiple hats; they have to act as clinician, business owner, educator, and marketer. There’s the ongoing effort of reaching those who could truly benefit while maintaining authenticity and integrity in how the work is presented.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Infinite Insight Hypnosis?
My practice focuses on helping people to uncover and heal the emotional root causes of many mental, emotional, and behavioral challenges that normal everyday people face. Rather than simply managing the surface level symptoms, we dive deep into the subconscious mind to address and heal where the problem began. Many of the struggles that my clients face such as stress, anxiety, fear, anger, guilt, self-doubt, or even past traumatic experiences, are often rooted in old emotional patterns that have been running just beneath the surface of conscious awareness. Hypnotherapy allows us to access that deeper part of the mind, gain awareness of the events and emotions that have shaped their reactions, beliefs, and habits, and release what no longer serves them.
As we progress through the hypnotherapy process, each session builds upon the last, creating momentum and deeper access to the subconscious mind. As clients progress, the sessions often become more powerful and transformative, because we’re working through layers and addressing the emotional root causes that have been holding them back. What we can often achieve together in just six to eight weeks can be equivalent to what might take years to accomplish through traditional talk therapy. It’s deeply rewarding to witness clients experience such meaningful breakthroughs in a relatively short amount of time.
