Community Highlights: Meet Danielle Foley of PDB Collaborative

Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle Foley

Hi Danielle, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi, I’m Danielle Foley. I was born and raised in Southern California, where I grew up traveling, being outdoors, and finding the beauty in my surroundings. My passion for architecture and the built environment has always been a part of me, deeply influenced by my culture and connection to nature.

My professional journey began with a degree in civil engineering. I started my career working for a prominent contractor, where I gained hands-on experience in construction and project management. This followed by my role at an architecture and engineering firm is really how I found my love for development as a whole.

After having my first son, I felt like I had the opportunity to be a part of something bigger. In 2019, I founded PDB Collaborative, a development management agency dedicated to supporting boutique hospitality and retail developers in bringing their visions to life. My journey and enthusiasm to my craft are driven by a passion for creating spaces for others to enjoy, ensuring every detail is meticulously executed so that people can create lasting memories.

Five years later, and another boy along the way, I am continuing to grow my team and portfolio, looking for the opportunity to build and grow our communities for the future.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting PDB Collaborative has been an incredible journey, but anyone knows owning a business isn’t always linear. One of the biggest challenges came just a couple of months after launching when COVID hit. The retail industry came to a complete standstill—businesses weren’t able to open! This created such uncertainty for developers, and all of the projects I had lined up as a new business were paused indefinitely.

It took about a month to process everything, and I realized that I couldn’t make any income by sitting at home and waiting. I spent every hour of the day reaching out to my contacts in development, checking in with them, and researching any deals that were actively happening. I drove around to find shopping centers under construction, connected with local retail developers, and attended any networking events that were open. That’s how I got my first client—a return client I had worked with in the past—which started the momentum for getting new work.

It took a lot of perseverance, but PDB Collaborative wouldn’t be the company it is today without facing these challenges. Since then, we’ve continued to encounter hurdles in the industry, but the opportunity of finding the right partners always makes it more exciting.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
