Community Highlights: Meet Carmen Sham of Little Berry Fairy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carmen Sham.

Carmen, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
It’s always been a hobby of mine to make cute delicious treats and gift them to my friends and family. Seeing the smiles on their faces when they receive my creations brightens my mood and brings me great joy to know that I made their special occasions all the more memorable. That desire to spread happiness was what inspired me to start my own business. I started with an Instagram account and posting some of my very first creations. I didn’t expect people to like my posts or even know I exist for that matter, but the Internet is such an amazing place and social media helps connect us to so many people who share similar interests.

Through Instagram, I was able to connect with a large number of clients and more importantly gain new friends and influencers who have only lifted me higher and guided me on how I could continue to grow my business. Food in general is meant to be shared and just like food, the foodie community likes to share new findings with one another. Little by little, I’ve been blessed by those who started with me on day one as they have been my advocates who took the chance to collaborate with me and help promote my work amongst the community. For that, I am deeply thankful for all their support.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Starting anything at all and sticking with it is never easy, but if you keep an open mind, each struggle becomes a lesson that only makes you better at what you do. From the little things like picking the right size of boxes to my strawberry dipping and baking techniques, every step of the way has been a learning experience. The idea of dipping strawberries could be very simple, you just dip the berries in chocolate and let them dry. However, to get that thin crunchy shell mixed with vibrant colors and perfect marble patterns, it definitely required a lot of trial and error on my part. As the orders began to increase, time management and efficiencies in my technique became increasingly important. There were definitely days where I was really testing my own limits, but positivity brings hidden strengths and these challenges all helped me in discovering myself and what my own potential could be.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My small business Little Berry Fairy specializes in chocolate-covered strawberries and other mini-sized sweets such as geometric cake hearts and cakesicles. All my sweets are highly customizable, and I work with the clients to bring their visions into reality in the form of sweet gift boxes. Many of my clients have told me that they like the consistency of my chocolate base, the balance in sweetness and all the unique design details that I incorporate into each of my creations. Beyond the chocolates themselves, I also value the freshness of the berries I use and for that, I search far and wide to source the highest quality berries that one could buy.

What makes you happy?
The things that make me happy are people’s feedbacks and also the precious opportunities that I have come across after starting this business. It is especially gratifying when they share how my sweets have made such a memorable impact in their special occasions, from birthdays and anniversaries to love confessions. It’s amazing how a simple little treat connects me to people I never even thought imaginable, from Hollywood celebrities to guests at weddings. These are all opportunities I never imagined having before starting this business and for that, I’m genuinely grateful for everyone who has helped me along this amazing journey.
