Hi Candace, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey began after working in a corporate setting for 15 years. During the last three years of my corporate career, I discovered the vast world of digital marketing and the opportunities it presented. Intrigued by this new realm, I embarked on a side hustle to explore the possibilities further. In 2011, everything changed when I had my first child. It was during this transformative period that I realized I no longer wanted to dedicate 16-hour days to someone else’s dreams. During my maternity leave, I took it upon myself to learn valuable skills such as coding, organic social media management, paid media strategies, and website development using WordPress. Armed with this newfound knowledge, I took a leap of faith and launched myself as a freelancer and consultant, leaving behind the confines of a traditional 9-to-5 job.
My business initially grew through word-of-mouth referrals from satisfied clients and by actively engaging with women in business Facebook groups. As I established my presence in the digital marketing space, I founded a virtual assistant agency that provided valuable services to a diverse client base.
However, in 2019, as I anticipated the arrival of my second child, I felt a strong desire for simplicity and a more focused niche-based approach due to some health complications. Consequently, I made the decision to sell my virtual assistant agency and transitioned into working as a consultant and implementation specialist for a select group of clients. This shift allowed me to work closely with individuals, providing personalized attention to help them realize their goals and bring their big ideas to life.
Since then, my business has continued to thrive, primarily through client referrals and recommendations. As I look toward the future, I am on a path to establishing an implementation agency that focuses on helping visionaries and entrepreneurs elevate their businesses by transforming their ideas into actionable plans. I am excited to guide and support these individuals as they take their businesses to new heights.
Throughout my journey, I have learned the value of continuous learning, adapting to new technologies, and embracing the power of networking and relationship-building. I am grateful for the opportunities that digital marketing has provided me, and I am excited to continue helping businesses achieve their goals through strategic implementation.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My journey has been marked by various challenges, including navigating significant transitions in my career while also managing the responsibilities of family life. Transitioning from a corporate job to running my own business presented its own set of hurdles, especially while balancing the demands of pregnancy and subsequent health issues. Despite these obstacles, I remained determined to establish myself as a freelancer in the competitive digital marketing industry. Building a client base requires networking, continuous learning, and adapting to market changes. As I progressed, I faced the additional challenge of shifting from a virtual assistant agency to a niche consultancy. However, I overcame these obstacles and transformed each hurdle into an opportunity for growth and learning, which is easier said than done. With the support of my Husband and a few close friends, and to be lucky enough to have such wonderful clients who have amazing gifts, I was able to heal, continue to work and learn.
