Today we’d like to introduce you to Babak Azizzadeh.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I moved to Los Angeles as a young child and was fortunate enough to attend UCLA for my undergraduate, medical school, and residency training before completing my facial plastic surgery fellowship at Harvard Medical School. After my fellowship, I moved back to Beverly Hills with my family to start my practice at Cedars-Sinai and start the Center for Advanced Facial Plastic Surgery. In the past two decades, I have spearheaded several healthcare initiatives aimed at enhancing individuals’ well-being through cutting-edge medical services, clinical trials, advanced research, educational endeavors, patient advocacy, and socially conscious entrepreneurship.
Early in my career, I was also fortunate to become involved with the Global Smile Foundation, allowing me the opportunity to regularly travel to developing countries and perform pro bono craniofacial surgeries that profoundly impact lives.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My greatest challenge initially was navigating my first few years in the United States after immigrating here without knowing a single word of English while also striving to make friends and adapt to the school environment. I was lucky to find great friends and have a supportive family who gave me the strength and courage.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
My clinical focus revolves around delivering personalized, cutting-edge, safe, and compassionate care in facial plastic surgery. Specifically, I specialize in procedures such as the deep plane facelift, neck lift, facial reanimation, and rhinoplasty. It’s been an incredibly humbling experience to receive recognition from esteemed colleagues as one of the top facial plastic surgeons in the country, as highlighted in publications like Newsweek, US News and World Report, and Castle Connelly. However, I firmly believe that humility is key in this field, and I continuously strive to uphold the highest standards of care by remaining dedicated to ongoing learning and maintaining a patient-centered approach in every aspect of my practice.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
When considering the outlook for the plastic surgery industry, it’s essential to recognize the incredible advancements we’ve witnessed. From groundbreaking technology to innovative techniques, we’re witnessing remarkable progress in both aesthetic and reconstructive procedures. Take, for example, the significant strides in facelift techniques and nonsurgical facial rejuvenation, alongside the transformative improvements in reconstructive management for conditions like facial paralysis, cleft lip, and cancer reconstruction. These advancements are not only revolutionizing patient care but also shaping a future where plastic surgery continues to evolve, offering hope and improved outcomes for countless individuals worldwide.
