Community Highlights: Meet Austin Garcia of AMG Studios

Today we’d like to introduce you to Austin Garcia.

Hi Austin, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
As a child, I grew up listening to my sister Jade compete on stage as a singer when she was about 6 or so. From then on, I found a love for female vocals and the melodies she would sing at a very young age. My father, Martin, was also a limo driver for artists like The Rolling Stones and Christina Aguilera, so as a child I was always around the music industry. It wasn’t until I was in high school that my mother, Molly, bought me Pro Tools, which she had no idea was the industry standard recording software for music. Throughout high school, I would make music but never really made anything worth listening to. It wasn’t until I started interning with Jonathan Moe that I improved my skillset as a producer and engineer, which made me realize I wanted to pursue music as my career. Shortly after, I attended Loyola Marymount University for Recording Arts under the School of Film & T.V. and got my Bachelors Degree.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There were definitely some struggles along the way, but pressure makes diamonds. Through the hardships, we grow and learn. After college, I moved into a house in Hollywood where I was the only one on the lease, housing 12 other people. I had my home studio and ran most of my business out of there. Once that house got demolished at the start of Covid, I relocated to Sherman Oaks where I was now living with five other people instead of 12 and had a beautiful home studio there as well. I was at that location for two years, but mixing business with home life is never a smooth sail. My peace felt disturbed over time, almost like I couldn’t express myself creatively and was being judged all the time. This is what let me to finally acquire a commercial space in Burbank. Now I have 2,000 square feet all to myself and my artists. Nobody can tell me what to do or when to turn down the music. Without those hardships, I probably would still be comfortable working out of the home environment.

As you know, we’re big fans of AMG Studios. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I am the CEO of my own company AMG Studios, LLC. I would like to think of the business as a one-stop shop for all creative needs. At AMG Studios we offer in-house production services, such as engineering, mixing and mastering. There are two rooms for recording and producing which we call our Studio-A and Studio-B. We also have a photography room with lighting and different color backdrops for artists to get headshots or artwork done at the same time. Another service we provide is our podcast room, where we can shoot, edit, and produce podcasts or interviews for whomever may need it. Some other cool amenities include an Arcade room, a Kitchen, and a lobby area for artists to hang out when they’re not working or want to take a break.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Covid 19 made me realize life is short and no matter the hand you’re dealt, you have the power to change your destiny.
