Hi April, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
At the age of 21, I started working as a plus-size fitting model with some of the most iconic fashion brands in the world. I worked as a plus-size fitting model at Forever 21 for four years and soon became one of the first plus-size fitting models to be hired at Fashion Nova. In my journey as a plus-size fitting model, I was blessed to work closely with designers, fashion professionals, and CEO’s at some of the most respected fashion companies to date. Together, we worked on developing & perfecting the overall fit and design of their clothes before they released it into stores. Through my 10-year career as a plus size fitting model, I gained invaluable experience that has inspired me to create my own exclusive plus size brand, Aldana Studios. I am passionate about creating clothes that cater to curvy women and am so excited that I get to bring my vision to life through Aldana Studios!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The most significant challenge I faced was learning the business side of Aldana Studios. Being a 100% online retailer, I had to familiarize myself with e-commerce, inventory management, and accounting. The learning curve was steep, but I am grateful for the incredible mentors I have had in the e-commerce fashion industry. I have learned a lot from them, and I believe that the learning process never stops.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love the people, the food, the opportunities, and the traffic. Just kidding, I hate the traffic.
