Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Fleischman.
Hi Amy, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Drapes Decor & More was started in Miami, FL by my mother (Victorine Fleischman) in 1999. I began working with her in Florida in my 20s and quickly saw the value that window treatments add to a home. When I moved to LA in 2019 I opened a branch of Drapes Decor & More in the LA area and have been nonstop ever since! I work with various designers in LA to help with the design and manufacture of drapes and shades in their client’s homes. This includes everything from thoughtfully designing each window to sourcing unique fabrics, hardware etc. I love being a part of such a niche piece of design that makes a huge difference in someone’s home.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Luckily it has been pretty smooth! The hardest part was going from a reputable business in Miami to a whole new market in LA. The design market in LA is very competitive and getting designers to trust me without knowing me was my biggest challenge. Luckily, a few designers had faith in my work and this led to an incredible network (only by word of mouth) of very talented designers who I am so blessed to work with every day.
As you know, we’re big fans of Drapes Decor & More. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Drapes Decor & More specializes in the design and production of window treatments. This includes drapes, shades, blinds, etc… Everything we manufacture is completely custom from A to Z. I believe what sets us apart from others is the quality and attention to detail. I have worked in the field for many years and have a keen eye for design. I try my absolute best to design drapery that will compliment the design of the overall home. I am also very hands-on in my workroom to make sure the drapes and shades are manufactured to perfection. This includes hand-sewn seams and triple-checking the stitching. The little details are what matters most.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What I love most about LA is the emphasis that clients and designers put on their homes. People truly care about design and are willing to take risks. In my business, that is amazing as I get to try different styles, work with special fabrics, and truly manufacture a product that will become part of a piece of art.
