Community Highlights: Meet Alma Valladares of AV Skin Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alma Valladares.

Hi Alma, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My journey in the beauty industry started over 20 years ago with a love for makeup. I began working as a makeup artist, and that passion eventually led me to get my esthetician license. Once I discovered lashing, I was hooked. I poured my heart into it, and it opened so many doors for me. I even had the chance to judge and help organize lash competitions.

After about ten years of doing lashes, I realized how much I loved skin and the power of touch. There is something special about the connection that happens when someone is on my treatment table. In 2020, I decided to dive deep into skincare and facial massage training. Now I specialize in lymphatic facial massage and microcurrent treatments, and I absolutely love helping women feel confident and beautiful in their own skin.

I started out renting the tiniest room. It was so small my bed did not even fit, but every space since then has gotten a little bigger. In December 2020, I took a huge leap and opened my own brick and mortar spa during COVID. It was scary but also one of the best decisions I have ever made.

I am always learning and growing, so I attend conferences and beauty shows to stay up to date with the latest in the industry. I have also been lucky to be involved in organizing The Skin Games conference for estheticians, which has been such a rewarding experience.

I truly love what I do. For me, it is not just about the treatments. It is about the conversations, the connections, and helping women feel amazing when they leave my table.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Absolutely — here’s your updated version with your new thoughts added in naturally and smoothly, keeping your voice and flow consistent while removing all dashes:

No, it definitely has not been a smooth road. My first year in business was really tough. I was juggling three jobs, barely had any clients, and felt like I was paying rent but not getting anywhere. There were so many moments I wanted to quit, but something inside me kept pushing forward.

About a year later, I started subletting a space from someone well known in the industry. Unfortunately, that experience did not go as planned, and I was left in a difficult position where I had to find a new place right away. It was stressful and heartbreaking, but it taught me to stand on my own two feet and trust myself.

Then, right before moving into my brick and mortar which was supposed to be one of the biggest highlights of my career, my boyfriend and I broke up. I remember moving all my things while crying, trying to stay strong and focused on my dream.

I also had to learn the hard way how to navigate hiring people and renting spaces out. Those experiences taught me valuable lessons about boundaries, communication, and trusting my instincts. I have also learned, and am still learning, how to create systems for my business that help things run more smoothly and allow me to grow.

There have been years that were really hard, but I have learned that the road to success is never easy. There will always be ups and downs, but you cannot give up. Every challenge has made me stronger and reminded me why I love what I do.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
What I want people to know most about my business is how much I truly love what I do and how deeply I care for my clients. Every person who comes to see me is more than just an appointment. They are someone I want to help feel beautiful, confident, and cared for.

I always stay current with what is happening in the beauty industry. I may not always buy the newest device or product, but I make sure I understand what is trending and what truly works. Over the years, I have learned that you do not need every modality to get amazing results. You just need the right ones.

After a lot of research, I am proud to say that I use the NeurotriS microcurrent machine, which has become one of my signature treatments. I specialize in microcurrent because clients can see visible results right away. It is an amazing alternative to Botox or fillers since it helps lift, tone, and firm the skin naturally. I love combining it with my customized facial massage for even better results.

I also take pride in choosing the right skincare products for my clients. The lines I carry are both luxurious and results driven, carefully selected after my own research and testing.

What truly sets me apart is my approach. I do not believe in aggressive treatments or overdoing peels that can damage the skin barrier over time. Instead, I focus on a holistic approach that supports the skin’s natural health. I believe in pro aging, which means embracing the beauty of aging gracefully while taking care of your skin in a way that feels authentic and sustainable.

At AV Skin Studio, it is not just about looking good. It is about feeling good, connecting, and honoring yourself at every stage of life.
