Today we’d like to introduce you to Allie Mirosevic.
Hi Allie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m originally from Chicago but have lived in LA for 11 years now. My heart is in both places! I love this city and have gone through a lot of life transitions while living here – met my now husband, had my two beautiful babies (my son just turned four and my daughter is almost two), bought our first condo, and started my business, Bliss’d, a journaling company for moms (more on that later).
Prior to starting Bliss’d, I worked in travel (I spent much of my 20s traveling and living abroad – New Zealand followed by Spain). I loved it – until I didn’t (the business travel wore me out!).
I had always wanted to have my own business (in my early 20’s, I remember thinking, “I’m never going to have a 9 – 5” … haha joke was on me with that one!) I started Bliss’d in 2018 while working a full-time job as a bath salt company. While self-care has always been at the root of Bliss’d, it wasn’t until I got pregnant and had my son in 2019 that I discovered my true WHY for Bliss’d – and then it took me another three years to get the wheels in motion for this current version (they say slow and steady wins the race, right?!)
I decided to go all in on Bliss’d nearly a year ago and while it certainly hasn’t been easy – I’ve never been more excited about my (career) path. Even though I have no idea how things will play out, I’m glad I’m giving it my all so at the very least, I can say I tried!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It certainly hasn’t been a smooth road! I’ve had struggles with everything from mindset (overcoming self-doubt) to finances (running a product-based business involves a lot of upfront costs) to challenges in motherhood (it’s a humbling experience, to say the least!). I try to overcome these challenges through mindset work and surrounding myself with uplifting and supportive people.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
My business, Bliss’d, helps fellow moms live more joyful, connected and fulfilling lives through the power of journaling. I am creating a full journal line, little by little! I am designing all of our journals.
The idea for my business was born during my first postpartum experience in 2019 when I experienced postpartum depression. At the suggestion of my therapist, I started journaling as an additional tool to help me (alongside medicine) and discovered I really loved journaling! Both helped immensely – and I like to say that my journaling practice stuck long after the medicine finished.
However, I couldn’t find an easy-to-use, inspirational 5-minute journal that could be used at any time of day (which is so important for a mom!), so I decided to create one – our first product, our Time to Reflect Journal! The journal is based on the format I used in 2019 (in blank journals) to help me start and maintain an effective journaling practice. I launched this journal in the fall of 2022.
While this journal was the catalyst for the launch of my business, I’m creating an entire line of easy-to-use and flexible journals, all designed to help moms live more joyful, fulfilling and connected lives.
I just launched our second journal – a Family Gratitude Journal – last month! This journal is based on my family’s dinnertime gratitude practice, where we go around the table and say what we’re grateful for. My husband and I started doing this at the start of the pandemic, well before our (now) four years old could understand. Then one day, he did understand – and it’s been SO cool to see and hear. I wanted to take this experience to journal form as a sort of gratitude AND memory book. This journal includes daily prompts and has options for drawing or writing out answers so that it is flexible as possible for families of all kinds!
One other aspect of my business that I believe sets it apart is my non-profit partnership. Using my business as a force for good is important to me – I love supporting brands that give back and always knew I wanted to do the same! In line with my mission to help moms live more connected, joyful and fulfilling lives, Bliss’d is a proud partner of the SeekHer Foundation, an advocacy group for women’s mental health. As an advocacy project of WellSeek, SeekHer Foundation is on a mission to bridge the gender gap of mental health through advocacy, research, and support for women changemakers who are making a difference in their local communities. My plan is to give 10% of Bliss’d profits each year to SeekHer.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I was always referred to as the “nice” girl. Growing up, I didn’t love this label (it sounded so boring) but now that I have kids, I realize one of the values I want to instill in them is kindness – it’s such a gift!
