Hi Alana, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
As a lifelong book lover, I have found connection among fellow book lovers, drawn together by our shared love and desire to be transported through the pages of a good story/book. This passion for reading and desire to connect with like-minded individuals led me to my idea to start Bookish Bliss Literary Retreats – a place where literary lovers could immerse themselves in literary discussions, meet authors, and forge lasting bonds. Despite the challenges of turning this dream into reality, from finding the perfect location to assembling a great panel, my unwavering belief in the power of books/stories to bring people together has driven me forward. What began as intimate retreats has turned into a community, with attendees discovering new experiences and creating amazing connections, all fueled by our love for books and the connections they inspire. I also turned this into an engaging book club where we have monthly meetings and Q&As with different authors.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The struggles lie in finding a suitable location that allows for fun, engaging experiences while still cultivating a distinctly bookish community vibe. There’s also the challenge of making the retreats affordable for attendees yet generating enough revenue to make the tremendous effort financially worthwhile. Right now, the primary focus isn’t on profits but rather on facilitating shared experiences, fostering meaningful connections among participants, and putting together an outstanding literary event.
