Today we’d like to introduce you to Aimee Poynor.
Hi Aimee, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Since I was about 7 years old I know I wanted to be a fashion designer. Growing up in a simpler area trying to achieve such a specific goal seemed so far into the future, but I was determined to make it happen. I would have my mom sew me samples using store bought patterns and be very particular about the finished product.
From there I attended FIDM and studied Merchandise a product development which was both a combination of the overall design and development process of creating pieces.
My grandmother was one of my biggest inspirations and supporters in my life. She had a background in fashion and I admired her outlook. She would take me shopping as a little girl and always look at the details such as the sewing on the garments, the hem, down to the buttons and look at the care labels to see the fabrics and materials used. She would gravitate towards cashmeres and natural made fibers and materials. She would know what brands were consistent with their measurements and fit that were most fitting for her petite body type. Being limited with what would fit her, she would be very specific about what she would invest in.
I loved focusing on these details with her even if it meant shopping for her pieces and not myself. I loved the attention to detail in it all. This would excite me from an early age
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s definitely not easy. It’s a lot of trial and error and the biggest challenge is just going forward it and believing in yourself through the entire process.
The beginning of starting a business can be challenging and expensive. If you have a goal in mind, I highly believe doing everything you can to achieve that goal.
Although I always knew I wanted my own clothing line. I initially had this idea about 5 years prior to actually pulling the trigger and putting things together.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We are Los Angeles-based clothing line. We focus on high-quality, essential pieces to curate the perfect wardrobe. Our main mission is to create staple pieces that you can keep in your wardrobe forever. Using natural materials, fibers, and focusing on an ethical and sustainable production process. All our fabrics, labels, tags, trims, and our closely overseen manufacturing is all done locally and domestically.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I love to map out each day with a morning list, writing out my to do list for the day, my intentions, which book I’m reading, which podcast I’ll listen too, and which meditation I’ll do.
I love everything Dr. Jo Dispenza. Some of my favorite books are the divine law of compensation, the productivity project, atomic habits, and I live by the book the mastery of love.
