Hi Ahmad, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
My journey to owning and operating Hasco Stores, an off-price retailer in Southern California with three locations and over 50 employees, is a testament to hard work, perseverance, and resilience. 

Growing up in a modest household, I learned the value of diligence and determination early on. When I ventured into entrepreneurship, I faced numerous challenges and setbacks. But rather than letting them deter me, I saw them as opportunities for growth. 

The harder it got, the more motivated I became. I knew that few would endure the challenges I faced, but that only fueled my determination to succeed. With each obstacle, my resolve grew stronger. 

With unwavering perseverance, I built Hasco Stores from the ground up with my father, who taught me everything I know. Every setback I encountered only fueled my determination to prove that success was achievable despite the odds. Today, as I stand at the helm of a thriving business, I’m reminded that with dedication and resilience, anything is possible. 

My journey is a reminder that success is not always easy, but it is achievable with hard work, perseverance, and a refusal to give up, no matter how daunting the path may seem. 

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Has it been a smooth road? Far from it. In fact, the journey to where I am today has been filled with countless challenges and obstacles that tested my resolve and pushed me to the brink. 

There were weeks, even months, where I found myself working upwards of 100 hours or more. Despite pouring my heart and soul into Hasco Stores, there were times when sales plummeted, and no matter what strategies I employed, nothing seemed to work. It was disheartening, to say the least. 

During these moments of adversity, I found myself standing in front of the mirror, questioning why I was putting myself through such trials. The temptation to throw in the towel and walk away was strong. But that’s the reality of being an entrepreneur – you face setbacks, you encounter failure, but you keep pushing forward. 

My mindset during those dark times was simple yet unwavering: as long as I was still breathing at the end of the day, there were more things to try, more strategies to explore, more avenues to pursue. Giving up was never an option. 

So no, it hasn’t been a smooth road. But every bump, every setback, and every moment of doubt only strengthened my resolve to succeed. And today, as I reflect on the journey that brought me here, I am grateful for every obstacle, for they have shaped me into the resilient entrepreneur I am today.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Opening each new store was a leap of faith, a decision that carried significant financial risk. The addition of payroll, rent, and various overhead expenses only added to the challenges of scaling the business. There were countless times where I questioned whether the risks were worth it, where doubts crept in, and regrets surfaced. 

But amidst the uncertainty and occasional regrets, I held onto a simple belief: without taking major risks, a company cannot truly grow. Each risk represented an opportunity for expansion, for reaching new heights, and for realizing the full potential of Hasco Stores. 

My perspective on risk-taking is straightforward: only embark on major risks when you wholeheartedly believe in the possibility of success and maintain an unwavering optimism. While the journey may be fraught with challenges and moments of doubt, perseverance, and belief in your vision will ultimately pave the way for success. 

So, to aspiring entrepreneurs and business owners, my advice is this: embrace risk-taking as an essential component of growth. Trust in your instincts, believe in the potential of your vision and never shy away from taking calculated risks that propel your company forward.
