Today we’d like to introduce you to Russell Hall
Hi Russell, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My story is very long and unpredictable. It began in Kingston Jamaica where I honed my craft in the dramatic arts. I moved to South Florida when I turned 13 and was baptized into the study of music. I picked up the double bass upon entering high school and have been a student ever since.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been a beautiful journey. The main struggle I’ve encountered is that of identity, how to retain the self whilst absorbing the outer. This manifests as racial discrimination, xenophobia and overall stereotyping. All of this amidst trying to develop my craft has been challenging but a lesson well learned.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a double bassist. I specialize in all of the diasporic folk music as well as creative consulting and music direction. I am most proud of the connections I have made with others along the journey. I stand out because I have balanced my lack of fear with my empathetic foundation.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love the spontaneity, I dislike the debris.
