Today we’d like to introduce you to Yasmeen Kanso.
Hi Yasmeen, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
The short answer is: I became a mom. Birth radically transformed me—especially through my decision to birth in water. That experience deeply anchored my health-centered approach to both parenting and life as a whole.
I’ve always had an evolving interest in health and wellness, but motherhood intensified it. That’s what led to the beginnings of my business, PITIT. It started with a very personal mission: creating an infant formula for my son. As a breastfeeding mom, I couldn’t find a plant-based formula that met my standards—everything on the market was either soy-based or full of high fructose corn syrup. So I created my own. When I realized other parents were looking for the same thing, I started selling it.
A couple years ago, I was invited to join a Silicone Valley-based accelerator program called 4thly, where I had the opportunity to present my business to an audience of friends, family, investors, and VCs. That experience taught me so much, not just about entrepreneurship, but about patience and long-term vision. I’ve come to understand that formulating and scaling a product like infant formula takes time, funding, engineering, and maybe even the right investors.
In the meantime, my work has continued to evolve. I use my platform to share what I’ve learned about holistic wellness, healthy food, and herbal healing. I launched a series called “Herb of the Day” where I spotlight a different plant, its physical and metaphysical benefits, and how to use it. I share these videos regularly on both Instagram and TikTok.
Beyond herbs, I also highlight different healing practices that have helped me feel and perform better–things like colonics, sound therapy, acupuncture, float therapy, yoni steams, and massage therapy. I see this work as part of a larger mission: to reconnect people with the tools that have always existed, especially in our ancestral traditions.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road has definitely been turbulent. I didn’t know what I was doing at first—but that’s kind of the point. You have to start, even without a road map. In the beginning, I had a few naysayers around that didn’t help. I also made the mistake of treating my business like a Fortune 500 company instead of the personal brand it truly is. In hindsight, that stripped away some of its warmth and authenticity. Once I allowed it to look less polished and more real, my voice became clearer and it started to resonate more easily with others. The more honest you are, the more people people feel seen. That kind of transparency is especially powerful in the wellness space.
Another challenge has been navigating others’ perception of my lifestyle. When people disagree with me, I sometimes hear things like, “How can you say or do that when you preach peace and wellbeing?” That kind of pressure and higher standard stalled me from fully stepping into my role because I felt like I had to constantly perform or strive for perfection. But the truth is: I am human, I am whole, and I am real. I speak my mind because I’m committed to navigating life honestly, even when it’s a little messy. Alchemizing my experiences into well-integrated lessons is true balance to me.
A final hurdle has been learning how to embrace my multidimensional self and skills. I come from a creative background: fashion, styling, and design have always been central to who I am. At first, it felt like my creative identity didn’t fit with my herbalist and naturalist path. But I’ve come to realize that they are deeply intertwined and creativity leans directly into my herbalist practice. Creating teas, tinctures, and herbal blends requires the same curiosity and willingness to experiment. Embracing all parts of myself has made my business and my offerings that much more powerful.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My mission is to modernize naturopathy and herbal healing. At one point, I had aqua green hair and regularly scheduled manicures—two things that don’t exactly align with the traditional (and sometimes granola) image of someone living close to the land. But I’ve embraced that my presence in this space might not look like what people expect—and that’s more than okay.
One way I carry out this mission is by offering gentle yet effective body care products to my community: an immune-boosting oregano tincture, a hair growth elixir, and a body butter that targets eczema. Every one of my products is rooted in plant knowledge, designed to help people weave herbalism into their daily lives.
Believe it or not, many pharmaceuticals on the market today are derived from herbs or plant compounds. For example, aspirin was developed from one of my favorite herbs: white willow bark. This tree contains a natural pain-relieving compound called salicin, which laid the groundwork for the creation of aspirin.
To make it very clear, I believe allopathic medicine is vital–especially for life-threatening or emergency situations. If I truly needed hospital care, I would not hesitate to seek it. But most of the time, we’re dealing with everyday issues: colds, bumps, bruises, and mild discomforts. These are situations where we can be more intentional and proactive with our healing. That’s why I encourage everyone to create their own home pharmacy or apothecary. Start small—with a few dried herbs and trustworthy literature to guide you. With the right mindset, knowledge, and tools, you’d be amazed at how capable you are of healing yourself.
What matters most to you? Why?
Community—without a doubt. If you don’t have family, friends, or a supportive network around you, I strongly believe you shouldn’t have children. Becoming a parent made it glaringly obvious how underdeveloped my own tribe was, which led to a series of deep personal realizations.
One of them was this: while we all understand the importance of community, very few of us are actually taught how to cultivate or maintain it. Especially as children, we’re rarely taught how to be pillars in our community, or how essential that is—particularly in parenthood. I’ve learned that the richness of your parenting journey is directly tied to the support system around you–especially the amount, the quality, and the type of support you have.
Professionally, the same applies. No brand or business in history has succeeded without the contributions of others. Your network, collaborators, and community is everything. It is not an option, this is a non-negotiable.
