Today we’d like to introduce you to Yalittza Pulgarin.
Hi Yalittza, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Well my name is Yalittza, (yah-lee-tt-zuh) I am 33 years old, born in east LA and lived in so cal my whole life. I currently manage one of the Klatch Coffee Locations in San Dimas while balancing work full time I am also a mom with two kids & one of them on them being on the spectrum so its always a busy day for me but I absolutely love it. I consider myself a natural born leader which has helped me thrive in my personal and work life.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not always been a smooth road although I am a first generation American and born and raised in the US, my parents are from Mexico so my first language was Spanish up until I started elementary school. Learning a whole new language at the age of 5 was a challenge having to do all the stuff my classmates had to do AND do the extra ELD classes. However I am forever grateful because now as an adult I am bilingual and that has opened me many doors. another challenge was me becoming a mom at 19 years old where I had to leave college to focus on providing for my child. I wanted to go to school for hospitality management, although I never got that degree I am currently in the field I wanted to graduate from. So I took a different route but somehow ended up just where I wanted to be.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I work at Klatch Coffee as a store manager, Klatch has been around for over 30 years and I am forever grateful to have been around the last 4 years. what do I do? short answer is coffee! long answer is my job is so many hats but I can point out the main ones. I am always looking out for super fun and friendly people to hire because I want every customer that walks in to feel welcomed and appreciated, with hiring comes training. I can hire someone with zero coffee knowledge and give me 3 months ill have you knowing so much about coffee it. which is funny to say because I was once a new hire with 0 coffee experience and everything I know now is because Klatch has an amazing coffee culture and they truly invest and develop their people. Outside of work I also do latte art competitions which is super fun I travel to a bunch of different coffee shops and compete, I have also competed in the World Latte Art Competition twice, once in LA and once in New York.
