Today we’d like to introduce you to Vira Bushta.
Hi Vira, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I moved to Los Angeles through the Uniting for Ukraine program because of the war in my home country. As a family, we made the decision to start over in the United States — to give ourselves a chance at peace, stability, and a new beginning. Thanks to the warm support of loved ones, we packed our bags (only a few necessary things and my materials and tools for work), bought a ticket, and together with our dog, we set off into a new, unknown life. This was the beginning….
Back in Ukraine, I worked as a nail artist for over 8 years. Leaving everything behind wasn’t easy, but I brought my skills and passion with me. From my first days in LA, I continued doing what I love — helping people feel confident and cared for. Now, I’m building a new life and growing my work in a place that gives me hope for the future.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Starting over in a new country comes with many challenges — emotionally, professionally, and practically. One of the first struggles was understanding how the beauty industry works in the U.S. Unlike in Ukraine, where my experience spoke for itself, here I had to go through a completely new process to become licensed. It was complicated, unfamiliar, and filled with paperwork I wasn’t used to.
Setting up my business legally also came with many bureaucratic steps — permits, taxes, insurance — everything had to be done properly from the ground up. At times it felt overwhelming, especially in a new country, far from the system I knew.
But what kept me going was the support from the people around me — new friends, family, and clients who believed in me. One by one, client after client, people started to trust me. That trust turned into loyalty, and loyalty turned into a full schedule. Every person who sat in my chair gave me the strength to continue.
It wasn’t easy, but now I look back and feel proud. All the obstacles helped shape me — not just as a professional, but as a person.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a professional nail artist with over 8 years of experience, now based in Los Angeles. I specialize in elegant hand-painted designs, gel techniques, and creative art that brings out each client’s personality. I create a peaceful, personal atmosphere where every appointment feels like a moment of care and connection — not just a service.
My style is detailed, clean, and expressive. Many of my designs are inspired by nature, modern art, and fashion. I’m constantly learning and improving — I regularly attend trainings and competitions, and have earned multiple awards in nail design categories.
Today, I am proud to be a winner of the world-renowned Nailympia championship, as well as a trainer and assistant judge in the nail industry. These roles allow me not only to grow as an artist, but also to support and inspire others in their creative journey.
What sets me apart is not just the quality of my work, but the energy and trust I bring to each session. Many of my clients say they come not only for their nails, but also for the calm, personal experience.
One of my biggest achievements is that I’ve built a loyal and growing client base here in the U.S., even as a newcomer. Today, my calendar is often booked up to six months in advance. That’s something I’m truly proud of — because every one of those appointments started with trust.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is that success in my work comes from much more than skill — it comes from how you treat people.
Responsibility, honesty, and sincerity are the foundation of everything I do. Clients don’t just remember perfect nails — they remember how they felt during the appointment. That’s why I always welcome them with a smile, kindness, and full attention.
At the same time, I never compromise on quality. I believe that a flawless manicure is not just about beauty — it’s a reflection of care, precision, and passion. My clients truly appreciate the attention to detail and the consistent, clean results they receive every time.
I’ve learned that when you combine technical excellence with genuine love for people and your craft — magic happens. That’s what keeps clients coming back and what makes this journey so special for me. And this journey has only just begun, with so many plans ahead.
