Today we’d like to introduce you to Victoria Rose Hasson
Hi Victoria Rose, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been an artist/singer-songwriter since I was 14. When I was about 15, I was obsessed with the band Paramore and Hayley Williams posted a YouTube video about her vocal abilities being majorly attributed to taking voice lessons with her voice coach, Brett Manning. I immediately spent all of the money I had at the time on his DVDs/CDs to learn to sing via his program, Singing Success.
Fast forward years later, I moved to Nashville from Montana in 2017 and began taking lessons in-person at Brett’s studio on Music Row. I later became his personal assistant and I now call him a good friend.
I lived in Nashville for 5 years and after a divorce, I decided to move to Los Angeles in 2022. Recently after I relocated across the country in North Hollywood, Brett reached out and asked if I’d be interested in going through the certification process and becoming one of his Associate Voice Coaches. I initially wasn’t interested but after some more consideration, I decided being a voice coach and teaching the methodology that I had become to believe in deeply would not only be a great way to fund my artist career, but would potentially help my own voice grow.
I moved back to Nashville temporarily to go through the intensive (and expensive) process of becoming certified as a coach and once the time came in my studies to practice student teaching, I discovered my obsessive enjoyment of teaching others.
I have now been living in Los Angeles and solely making my living through voice coaching and it has been a difficult, amazing journey!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Becoming a voice coach in a new city and with no name was extremely daunting in the beginning. I had recently went through a divorce and was feeling vulnerable and alone when I arrived in LA. Paying rent and even eating were often unattainable. Aside from the obvious physical struggles that come from being broke and starting a business on your own, the mental struggles were definitely the heaviest. I can’t count how many days I didn’t want to try anymore, didn’t want to say yes to going to events or shows to potentially find new students and didn’t want to face how scary it was to feel like I would potentially fail and have no other plan.
I am still amazed at how far I’ve come in such a short time and I attribute all of my current success to my community. 95% of my students have been word of mouth clients and the others have found me via Google thanks to my student’s thoughtful reviews.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I have always been a performing artist and active songwriter even as I’ve picked up teaching voice. I truly feel that this helps my students in their growth because I’m not just directing them but am actively living the musician life alongside them. I’m certified as a vocal coach and that gives me incredible tools to teach anatomically and technically but because I’m still releasing music and playing shows myself, I can confidently help my clients with a lot of the other practical issues that come with pursuing music (ex. stage fright, public speaking, authenticity etc).
In the studio, I love to help my students find THEIR own authentic voice. I teach in a very diagnostic way meaning I’m not just giving generic exercises and then hoping you sound better. I’m listening and helping you find specific ways to grow that are catered to your own unique sound and goals.
