Check Out Vera Ostrova’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vera Ostrova

Hi Vera, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.

My story begins in early childhood when I first fell in love with the piano at the age of 7. I studied classical piano and voice at the National Opera House in my hometown of Tashkent, Uzbekistan. My Russian grandmother instilled a love for singing in me as she sang all the time, particularly old Russian folk songs. Through those songs, I always felt a connection to primal energy—something ancient and deep.

I performed on various stages and in theaters throughout my childhood and teenage years, and even hosted a radio show. At 19, I moved to the United States, initially to Colorado and later to California, to pursue my dream of becoming a musician. I studied music at Santa Monica College and collaborated with my friend and music producer, Roman Ponomarenko, as part of the duo Bluestorm. We secured a record deal with a label in Moscow, Russia, called Pitch Music and I also signed a contract for the song “What If” with Armin Van Buuren for his debut album ‘Imagine,’ which catapulted his career and established him as the #1 DJ in the world. I spent 10 years in the EDM industry, enjoying success but feeling that something was missing.

Seeking fulfillment, I embarked on a journey of soul-searching that began in Boulder, Colorado, where I explored yoga, meditation, mantra, healthy eating, qi gong, and other forms of self-healing. Life eventually led me back to my favorite city, Los Angeles, where I took a break from music to study hypnotherapy and delve into understanding the human mind and further methods of healing.

During my studies, I took a transformative trip up north with three classmates, participating in an Ayahuasca ceremony led by a shaman who sang this incredible song that blew my mind. This experience introduced me to Medicine Music, rooted in South American folk traditions—a genre filled with vocals, live instruments, and profound meaning that resonated deeply with me. Inspired, I formed a band with those classmates called Shamanitas, and we immersed ourselves in studying these ancient and modern healing songs in Spanish, Sanskrit, Japanese, and even Gaelic. My passion for these songs filled my heart, and I finally felt at home again.

In this period, I also discovered the power of sound healing and breathwork at Unplug Meditation in Santa Monica, led by Avery Whitmore, which further expanded my understanding of healing through sound and breath. Although I initially admired his work without imagining myself becoming a sound healer, the experience left a lasting impact on me.

Fast forward to 2020: amidst everything shutting down and chaos unfolding, me breaking my foot and losing my corporate job, I ordered a set of singing bowls and began practicing at home. That year, I also learned to play guitar. In 2021 once things started to open up, I found myself embracing any opportunity to perform. I worked at a rehab facility leading sound healing and meditation groups—a challenging yet deeply rewarding job. I performed at various festivals, yoga studios, and private parties.I was also pregnant that year and I remember driving 5 hours into Mojave Desert with my huge belly, and it was worth every minute. I believe this is why my son now is so musical, because he got exposed to sound early.

Currently I am enjoying and keep advancing my work with bigger goals and plans. I combine my knowledge of hypnotherapy and music to facilitate beautiful experiences that put my clients deep into their subconscious state creating a visceral journey that leaves one feeling refreshed and peaceful. Something we all need. It’s a reset for the mind and body. I play multiple instruments, incorporate my voice, guitar, piano, singing bowls, gong, chimes, ocean drum and more.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?

Music has always been very generous with me. It’s been a guiding light of my life leading me to amazing people and opportunities. Through my journey of self healing I found myself being dedicated to helping others and solving bigger problems. My mission is to create those spaces for connection and give our community the time to do real self care, experience what it’s like to be stress free and worry free, so they can go back to their lives and their families with a renewed sense that all is well. And have a fresh perspective. Another challenge with this job is that it’s an uncharted territory. Just like yoga once was known to a handful of people in the US, and now everyone knows what yoga is. Sound healing has a big future here. But right now we are trailblazing this career. But this is exactly what being an Angelino is all about. This city is a mecca for so many innovative and creative careers that later voyage out into the world and become huge. This is the place to do it. And I can’t wait for all the expansion and I’m proud to be one of the artists who get to push this beautiful career forward.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?

I specialize in creating wellness events that provide people with a space to experience sound healing also known as sound therapy or sound meditation.

I combine hypnosis/meditation with breathwork and play multiple instruments

such as guitar, piano, gong, crystal bowls, chimes, ocean drum and others. I use effects on my voice as well to create an otherworldly feeling of spaciousness. I work with groups as well as in one on one sessions.

What I am the most proud of is probably how good I am at getting my clients to take a journey with me. By using hypnotherapy together with breath and sound, I am able to create seamless sequences that lead to full immersion and allow my clients to shift their emotional states resulting in complete clarity and even bliss. What sets me apart is my voice. I have so much experience singing throughout my life that now I can use my vocal ability to invoke an array of inspiring feelings from angelic to primal to even ancient. And I am constantly exploring new ways to use my voice.

What are your plans for the future?

Currently, I’m focused on developing my branding. My vision includes pitching my services to hotels and spas in the Los Angeles area, with plans to expand into other areas. I’m also working on creating new and exciting content for my YouTube channel—a series of guided meditations—and organizing several events. And also, I will continue to work for a wellness center in Agoura Hills called Foy which is also a recovery center and they do a tremendous job helping people in recovery.
