Check Out Turk Jones’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Turk Jones

Turk, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Before tattooing, I had a true passion for skate boarding and began around the age of 13. After having an injury while skate boarding, I decided that I wanted to express my creativity through tattooing. I initially came to LA in 2015 as a tattoo artist looking to find the best shop to tattoo in. After working at a shop in Leimert Park for a few years, I realized that I needed to learn more about how the business was ran. I then went back to Atlanta and to Miami to find out what I could learn about running my own tattoo shop. In 2021, I began the process of creating Chaotic Tattoo on Melrose which officially opened in March 2022. Chaotic Tattoo recently hit its 2 year anniversary, sponsors a number of skate boarders, and is still the only black owned tattoo shop on Melrose.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it has not been a smooth road because this is a new journey that I’ve decided to take. Everyday has presented itself with different struggles but I am willing to ride each and every wave in order to make Chaotic Tattoo a successful tattoo shop that will always be remembered/known.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in traditional style black work and large traditional pieces with a chaotic twist. I am most proud of the tattoo shop having our first art show and tapping into that side of the tattoo industry. Because a lot of tattoo artists are amazing artists whose work deserves to be displayed.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
There are only a few times in life where you’re able to grasp at something great and because of the pandemic people could either take those risks and try things or choose not to. Although the Covid-19 Crisis brought along tough times, I was able to use that time to create something great. I’ve always taken risks and I knew that this one would be one of the biggest. But it has truly paid off.
