Today we’d like to introduce you to Tia Einarsen.
Hi Tia, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started my musical journey in Chicago, where I grew up surrounded by a musical family and a vibrant music scene. As a young girl, I found comfort and solace in music, which became my self-expression outlet. My dad taught me to play guitar and I started writing my own songs, pouring my heart and soul into each lyric and melody.
Over the years, I honed my craft and had the incredible opportunity to perform at renowned venues like Schuba’s and Doubledoor. These experiences not only allowed me to connect with audiences but also solidified my passion for creating music that resonates with people on a deep level.
My first job out of college was at an iconic Chicago radio station, WXRT, meaning I attended three concerts a week on average and met some of my musical heroes and inspirations including Sheryl Crow, Billy Corgan and Fitz & the Tantrums. Being constantly surrounded by music and seeing artists live out their dream helped me understand it was attainable and pushed me to continue working towards my own music career.
I released by first EP, ‘Overhear’ when I was 24. I would run from my commission-based sales job to the studio after work every week and use the money I made from selling radio ads to finance it. Listening to those songs today never fails to bring me back to those formative years full of lessons of love, confusion, and ‘coming of age’.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
After spending a decade hustling at companies in Los Angeles, Chicago and Barcelona, I reached a point of intense burnout. I realized that life is too short to settle for a 9 to 5 routine that didn’t fulfill my true passion. Deep down, I’ve always known that music is my calling, so after some deep introspection, therapy and soul searching, I made the bold choice to leave the comfort of stability and pursue my dreams.
In order to fully jump in, I knew that I needed to equip myself with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed. So, I enrolled in an intensive music production course and dove back into the studio with incredibly talented producers. I wanted to ensure that my music would resonate with others on a deep level and convey the themes of self-reflection and finding one’s authentic path in life.
The pandemic forced us all to slow down and reflect on our lives. It provided me with a unique opportunity to reevaluate my purpose and priorities. With everything around me shifting, I made the decision to take a leap of faith, quit my job, and fully immerse myself in my music passion and career. It wasn’t an easy choice, but I firmly believe that it’s crucial to pursue what ignites our souls, even in the face of uncertainty.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I take immense pride in my ability to create music out of life’s toughest experiences. Through heartbreak, grief, and unimaginable moments, I have discovered solace and strength in transforming my emotions into something beautiful.
Music has become my refuge, offering catharsis and healing as I navigate through pain. It is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit, allowing me to find my truest voice as a musician. What brings me the greatest pride is knowing that my music has the power to touch lives. If even one person finds solace or connection through my songs, I feel accomplished.
By sharing my experiences, I aim to offer comfort and support to those facing similar struggles. Turning adversity into meaningful art reminds me of the hope and beauty that can be found in the darkest moments. It underscores the power of art to inspire, heal, and unite.
Through my music, I strive to create a safe space where listeners can find solace and understand they are not alone. Ultimately, I am most proud of creating impactful and beautiful art from these experiences. If my music can touch even one person’s heart and provide comfort, that is my proudest accomplishment.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to me is my unwavering commitment to self-love and self-discovery. It’s not just about my music, but it extends to every aspect of my life. You see, in a world that’s always pressuring us to seek validation from others and fit into molds, I’ve found solace in self-love. It’s about recognizing my own worth, appreciating my strengths, and embracing who I truly am. By nurturing self-love, I’ve learned to let go of the opinions of others and fully embrace my individuality.
But self-love doesn’t exist in isolation. It goes hand in hand with self-discovery, an ongoing journey of exploring my emotions, values, and passions. This journey has pushed me to confront my fears and insecurities, and it has opened up new creative horizons for me. Through self-discovery, I’ve found the courage to challenge myself, step outside of my comfort zone, and unlock my true artistic potential.
By prioritizing self-love and self-discovery, I’ve been able to create a beautiful connection between my personal life and my music. It’s an incredible feeling to infuse these principles into my creative process, knowing that my music resonates with others who are on their own path of self-discovery and self-acceptance.
Living authentically and staying true to my values brings me more fulfillment than anything. It’s a constant reminder to reject the pressure to conform and seek approval from within myself. I’m proud to share my art with the world, embracing the freedom of self-expression that comes with it.
