Check Out Taylor Marie Contarino’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Marie Contarino.

Hi Taylor Marie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve had a passion for music since my childhood and started attending concerts at the age of seven. During the pandemic, I began using my time to write about music, especially about 90s hip-hop music and I created a passion project for myself in which I analyzed the music of Tupac and Biggie and tried to understand how their childhoods influenced their careers. I started realizing how passionate I was about music, and then I created a hip-hop music blog during my freshman year while living in New York. After creating my blog, I ended up getting more opportunities in music and eventually, after working with a couple of independent labels and opportunities, I landed at Universal Music Group, 1824, as a Strategic Partnerships Representative. with UMG 1824, I’ve been to work with some of my favorite artists and create amazing fan to artist experiences, even at my own school of USC. This past Summer, I’ve worked with BMG Music Rights Management as a Creative A&R Intern and I’ve begun my own artist career as well as a songwriting career.

I’ve registered with ASCAP as a songwriter and music publisher, started my own small independent record label, and started a music PR/Marketing Blog/Company.

Today, I’m a part of amazing programs that I never dreamed of being part of, like the Recording Academy’s GrammyU Program, the Songwriters of North America, and I hope to one day be invited to the Grammys themselves or be a part of the Billboard Women in Music.

My dream is to become a music industry executive in Music Publishing and A&R, and every day I feel a step closer to this dream!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The journey hasn’t been perfect, but it has been beautiful and I’ve been so beyond grateful for every opportunity and experience I’ve been given.

Something that I struggle with personally is sometimes working myself too hard to the point of getting sick and experiencing fatigue, but my passion saves me every single time and I’ve been able to learn how to be both productive and take care of myself: I have a lot to prove as a person, and I have three younger siblings that look up to me, so my dream truly is to make them and the rest of my family proud.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a music industry enthusiast and in love with every part of it. I’m a writer at heart, so songwriting has become a huge passion of mine and I’m incredibly inspired by individuals like Nija Charles and Tayla Parx. I’m also the owner of a PR/Music Marketing company, so I love working with artists and using my love for writing to help them. I also work in the industry, so I’m surrounded by inspiring artists every single day and this is such a blessing for me. I love helping artists with their careers because I believe that art is a beautiful way for us as humans to express ourselves, and being able to support that vision is amazing.

I’m proud of myself because at 20 years old, I’ve accomplished more than I ever have though possible. I’m also a college student entering my third year, and I’m so proud of myself for balancing this industry life and this college life at the same time.

My positive, excited energy is what I consider to be my biggest and best characteristic, and I believe my passion is also something that simply makes me, me. I might not be the most talented person in any given room, but I sure will be the one that works the hardest. It all comes from me having something to prove.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Being a good human comes first for me- it’s in everything that I do. Ethics come first for me because I am a human before I am anything else. My mission here on earth is to spread love and make everyone feel like somebody. I aim to make people feel loved and feel good through everything I do, and I just want to shine my light through all that I do in this industry and in the world.
